School holidays are almost here, and if you're loading up the SUV for a winter road trip, there are three things worth checking before you leave the driveway.
First, tyre pressure. Cold winter mornings can drop tyre pressure by roughly 1 PSI for every 10Β°C drop in temperature. Check your pressures before you load the car, not after. A full SUV with soft tyres is not a great combination on a long run.
Second, brakes. Extra passengers, luggage, and a roof rack all add weight. More weight means your brakes need to work harder to stop the car. If you've noticed anything off lately, now is the time to get it looked at, not halfway up the highway.
Third, wiper blades. June rain in Western Sydney is no joke, and worn blades that smear instead of clear are a real visibility problem. Takes two minutes to check.
None of this is complicated. It's just the kind of thing that's easy to skip when you're in holiday mode and the kids are already in the car.
