Wingless Sprints Ready for Huge Season Opener!
The Wingless Sprints make their much-anticipated return to the Perth Motorplex this weekend, and if the opening nomination list is anything to go by, fans are in for a spectacular season ahead.
A massive 35-car field has been assembled for the season opener, which will be held across two nights and double as the Slick Apparel Opening Round of the Wingless Sprints Championship series, setting the scene for a highly competitive year of racing as drivers return ready to chase feature wins, season point scores and the coveted Perth Motorplex Track Championship.
Leading the charge are the dominant Iwanow (Iwanow Motorsport) brothers, Matt and Blake, who enjoyed outstanding campaigns last season and will be eager to continue that form from the opening green flag.
Matt Iwanow was the benchmark throughout 2025/26, recording an incredible seven feature race victories for a total of eleven podium finishes. His consistency and speed saw him establish himself as the driver to beat, and he will be aiming to once again set the pace as the new season gets underway.
Brother Blake was also a major force, claiming four feature wins of his own and proving that the Iwanow name remains one of the strongest in Wingless Sprint racing.
Tyler McQuilkin (McQuilkin Motorsport) emerged as one of the standout performers last season, producing a string of impressive performances that had the Wingless Sprint world taking notice. McQuilkin secured two feature victories and six podium finishes, and will be looking to build on that momentum this season.
Consistency was the key for Daran Humfrey (Humfrey Racing), who continued to be one of the most reliable competitors in the field. His 2025/26 campaign included a feature win and six podium finishes, while Brandon Sharpe (Sharpe Motorsport) and Travis Armstrong (Armstrong Motorsport) also joined the winner’s circle with feature victories of their own.
Sharpe will have an added incentive this season as he begins his Perth Motorplex Track Championship defence. After finishing ahead of Humfrey and McQuilkin in last year’s standings, Sharpe will be looking to start his championship defence in the strongest possible fashion.
The depth of talent in the field was highlighted last season, with drivers such as Heydon Hicks (Hicks Racing ) and Brendon Wedge (Wedge Motorsport) regularly featuring near the front and collecting multiple podium finishes throughout the campaign.
A host of familiar names will also return this weekend, including Matty Fellowes (Fellowes Motorsport), Robbie Clark and Blake Scarey (Scarey One Motorsports), all eager to make an early statement in what promises to be a fiercely contested season.
Adding even more excitement is the influx of new talent, with no less than eight rookies set to make their Wingless Sprint debuts. The opening rounds will provide the perfect opportunity for these emerging racers to learn from some of the best in the division while beginning their own journeys.
With a huge field, proven race winners and a new generation of competitors ready to make their mark, the Wingless Sprints are set to deliver plenty of action when they hit the Perth Motorplex for the first time this season.
This weekend promises to be a massive start to the Wingless Sprint campaign!
