Our resident metal guy Kyle de Kuijer has been piecing together his track-nose T Model Roadster since 2018, doing virtually everything himself in his home garage. From hand-making the all-aluminium track nose and bonnet to punching his own louvers and fabricating countless one-off parts, the goal was to build a true 1930s-style salt racer.
About 12 weeks before this year’s VHRA Hot Rod and Street Machine Festival Kyle mentioned his club had a display and asked if we thought we could get it painted in time. 😬 Challenge accepted.
With kyle already having the metalwork, chassis and running gear already finished, Damo Rodway , Kyle and I spent the next 10 weeks pushing it through filler, RestoFinish polyester, primer, paint, wet sanding, buffing and final assembly—all after hours.
As for colour, there was only one real choice. Like Henry Ford said, “Any colour you like, as long as it’s black.” We just wanted the blackest black possible, and the boys at Body Shop Paint Supplies delivered. Finished in DeBeer Refinish black and clear, we couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. And all just in time for the VIC Hot Rod Show!
