VW polo in the shop recently with a 1.4L *CXSA* petrol engine. Customer was driving and the coolant temperature warning light came on and the guage spiked to 130 degrees, the customer done the right thing and pulled over to the side of the road immediately and switch the vehicle off.

After it was towed to the shop we removed the coolant pump drive belt cover and saw that the belt had snapped, this occurred prematurley due to the pump leaking coolant and the belt being constantly saturated with coolant.

New coolant pump and drive belt installed, cooling system flush and bleed and the customer was back on his way.

Mk 8 Golf R in the shop for a 45,000km service

Brake fluid flush was required as the water concentration in the brake fluid was greater than 4%.

This job is now made easier with our new ATE FB30 SR brake bleeding machine, this machine saves us time and money

Picked it up from hsy autoparts a few months back and couldn’t be happier.

VW Golf Mk5 in the shop for an issue with the front passenger side door, door actuator and electric window was inoperative. Plugged in the scan tool and had no communication with the control module, checked the wiring loom where it leaves the car body and enters the door and found corroded and broken wires.

This is a common issues with Mk5 Golfs, in the past we would just install a new door wiring loom from VW, this is no longer an option as the part is discontinued and VW Australia have no old stock left.

Luckily Febi make a repair section for these vehicles, we removed the outer door skin, peeled back the insulation and stitched in the repair section. We reassembled everything back together and tested the operation of all components in the door and all works as it should

Volkswagen Caddy in the shop recently, 1.4TSI with a 7spd DSG (DQ200)

Transmisson fault light on the dash and the car wouldn’t select 1st gear, Scanned the vehicle and a fault code was present for Gear Selector Position - Implaudibe Signal.

This is an issue we have seen several times before, so we pulled the Mechatronic unit out of the gearbox and as expected we found fine metal filings on all the selector shaft magnets.

Cleaned all the metal filings from the magnets, reinstalled the Mech unit and filled with new transmission fluid, car drives like a dream again

This happens due to lack of transmission fluid changes. Volkswagen says the transmission is fill for life, this vehicle had done just under 180,000km without ever changing gearbox fluid. We recommend to our customers that transmission fluid in DQ200 gearboxes be changed every 90,000km to negate this issue.

Quick update:

With the long wait times for modern vehicles continuing, we’ve had to make a tough call — for now, we’ll no longer be working on Volkswagen air-cooled vehicles and T3’s.

We know this might be a bit of a letdown for some of our long-time customers, and we really appreciate your understanding and support.

As always, if you’ve got any questions, just give us a call

2013 Golf in the shop this week for a transmission repair. Pulled out the mechatronic unit and found the issue, car wasn't selecting gears correctly as the linear bearings on the 6/R selector had failed. Tore the transmission down and replaced both linear bearings.

After reassembly of the transmission a new clutch pack was installed as the old clutch pack had signs of wear and was not shifting smoothly. Factory LUK tooling was used for measuring and installation of the clutch pack as per manufactures specification.

Basic settings were then preformed on the transmission and prescribed drive cycle was completed.

This is a common issue with the DQ200 transmission and we at Volks Auto specialize in this repair.

Porsche Cayenne in the shop recently with rough running and a hunting idle. Hissing could be heard coming from the rocker cover where the PCV assembly is.

Intake manifold and rocker cover were removed and the faulty PCV was replaced. New rocker cover gaskets and intake manifold gaskets were installed, vacuum line from the vacuum pump to booster was changed as it had multiple cracks and vacuum leaks

After reassembly the vehicle is running like a dream again.

Had a T5 with a 1.9 TDI in the shop recently.

Vehicle had over heating issues, we used a combustion leak tester on the cooling system to check for a cracked head gasket. Using the inspection camera through the glow plug holes we saw coolant leaking into cylinder 4

Cylinder head was removed and sent off to a machine shop to be resurfaced. After it returned we installed new camshaft, cam bearings and lifters

Injectors got new seal kits and hold down bolts, after this the injector travel was set as per manufactures specification.

After the cylinder head was torqued down we installed a new timing belt & water pump kit as well as a new thermostat and thermostat housing.

Engine runs perfectly now with no more over heating issues

VW Eos in the shop recently with a 6 speed DSG (DQ250) with shifting issues and going into limp mode

Diagnosis was a failed linear bearing on the 2/4 gear selector shaft and after taking the box apart this was confirmed.

All new selector forks and a new clutch pack were installed. Transmisson was reinstalled back into the vehicle, adaption all completed and the car is running like a dream again.

We have done a few of these jobs in the recent months. We have a 7 speed DSG (DQ200) with the same issue that we will be reparing in the coming week.

2011 Golf TDI came into the shop with a check engine light on, vehicle was running fine still. Code was present for an implausible signal with the Throttle Position Sensor

Checking the adaptation data for throttle position flap and found that it was at 13.8% open at idle, this is unusually high, we would expect to see between 3-5% under normal conditions. We pulled the throttle body and as we suspected it was full of carbon.

After a good clean we reinstalled the unit, preformed the throttle body adaption and now the car is idling smoother then before and the throttle body adaption at idle is a 3.7%
