Meet Henry Toby – a proud Thanakwithi clansman from Old Mapoon heritage, and Regulatory Officer for Council’s Community Services team.

At NPARC, Henry’s core role is in Animal Management but also currently working with the Parks and Gardens team “cutting grass, making community beautiful”.

He has lived in the Northern Peninsula Area “forever” - born and raised in the north, he says it is such a good environment to live: “All my family are here, so I can never leave”.

An avid fisherman and wild pig hunter, he really enjoys the outdoor life: “I am always catching food to bring home”.

A local of New Mapoon, Henry’s family is from the ancestral lands that stretch along the western side of Queensland's Cape York, including areas around the Mission River, Pine River, and the town of Mapoon – the Thanakwithi people.

Apart from visiting his homelands his favourite place to travel is also to Cairns, to visit extended family living in the south.

His totems are the Dingo and the Red-bellied Short-necked Turtle.
