Home brew string-line alignment turned out to be the best alignment I’ve ever had. Now to start experimenting with some different settings.

After ordering a supposed 15 PSI spring and installing, this Tial wastegate felt a little stiff.

Hooked it up to some air - turns out it took over 50PSI to even crack the WG. Well into ‘rod to god’ territory.

An unfortunate problem with using overseas parts, and relying on local suppliers to get reproduction spares right. And a valuable lesson in why parts should be bench tested where practical!

Quick modification with the grinder (cut the spring in half) got it operating nicely at just over 15PSI to open.

Sometimes you just need to take a 5.7l LS1, strip it, rebuild it with ported heads and a cam, custom make everything, and stick it in a 1300kg BMW 3 series.

We finished this more than 6 months ago now, but this is the first time we’ve really posted anything about ’s LS E36.

This was a ground up build, everything custom was made in house, all the work was done in house, and aside from a few well known E36 issues (which we are rectifying as budgets allow), the build has been problem free.

Builds like these are a testament to how much unseen, and unplanned work goes in. And are a timely reminder that having the cash is a tiny factor in actually getting through a swap.

Anyone who works with silicone bends knows that can be a pain in the ass to cut. And even more of a pain in the ass to cut squarely.

It takes time, patience, and if you’re not careful a fingertip sacrifice to the razor blade gods.

There are a few solutions out there to solve this problem, and now I humbly present my own. In no way OHnS approved, probably has way too many moving parts for mass production, and the finish could be better. Buttt, it works, and only cost a few hours time.

Sometimes when you’re racing you get lucky, other times you get unlucky.

This poor dude had a wheel identify as not part of the car anymore and needed some serious help getting his otherwise beautiful (and somehow still undamaged) M140 off a tow truck.

Ended up getting him all fixed up and able to limp the car home. (Albeit with the other 3 wheels donating wheel studs)

No idea who he was, no talk of payment, just racers helping fellow racers out.
