Simply Sports Cars and the Australian Lotus community have lost a most cherished member.
On Friday 18 September 2026, Gemma Gibson passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her immediate family. Gemma had been fighting a 2 year battle with Ovarian cancer.
Joining SSC in July 2013, Gemma quickly established herself as an integral part of the SSC team. She was the backbone of our Finance, Human Resource and Administrative Operations as well as being the self-appointed minister for social events and gatherings. The quality of birthday celebrations in SSC remains unprecedented.
Gemma’s love of Lotus saw her buy a beautiful Velvet Red Elise S with exquisite cream leather interior. In that car, Gemma went on to complete her Women in Motorsport training, drive in the Targa Tour and complete numerous Lotus track days, all of which were completed with laughter and a beaming smile.
Gemma’s enthusiasm for everything she took on was as infectious as her positive attitude towards life. Even after being diagnosed with stage 4 Ovarian cancer in 2024, Gemma continued to embrace life with an energy and attitude that meant many were unaware of the private battle she was engaged in.
Gemma’s work ethic and love of SSC saw her continuing to work whenever she wasn’t hooked up to a chemo drip or getting scans. In latter months, Gemma made the decision to finish up with SSC to spend quality time with her family and close friends, and we are so glad she did.
Gemma’s passing has left a very large hole in SSC, and while we are all hurting, our thoughts are extended to Gemma’s immediate family, Steve, Brett and James, as well as the many extended family members and close friends who have been impacted by Gemma’s passing.
True to Gemma’s character, even in her final days, she was thinking about how she might help others and has asked that if anybody would like to support a charity on her behalf, please consider www.ovariancancer.net.au who support patient care or https://northfoundation.org.au/ who support research.
Rest In Peace Gemma. You will never be forgotten.
