🏁 What an incredible result for local rider Will Jones at the iconic Finke Desert Race!

Gary has just spoken with Will and we’re absolutely thrilled to share the news.

Competing in his very first Finke Desert Race aboard his KTM 450 EXC-F, Will finished an outstanding 209th place from a huge field of around 700 riders.

Anyone who follows off-road racing knows just how tough the Finke is. The brutal desert terrain, deep sand, relentless whoops and sheer distance make it one of Australia’s most demanding motorcycle events. To finish is an achievement. To finish 209th on your first attempt is something special.

When Gary asked how it went, Will’s response was simple. He stayed on the bike for the entire event. That’s a testament to his preparation, determination and riding ability.

Of course, every great race story needs a little humour. While Will successfully navigated the desert, his brother Jacob (our former apprentice) apparently managed to get lost driving the backup ute! 🤣😂

Gary and the entire Albany Motorcycles team couldn’t be prouder of Will’s effort. We’d also like to acknowledge the support of the Cranbrook Motorcycle Club, Will’s family, friends and local sponsors who helped get him to the start line.

A fantastic first Finke campaign and a result that should make the whole local region proud.

Good luck Will Jones!

This weekend, Will is taking on one of Australia's most legendary off-road events – the 50th Anniversary Tatts Finke Desert Race. Riding a KTM 450 EXC-F, it will be Will's first time competing in this iconic desert challenge.

The Finke is no ordinary race. Covering around 460km of brutal Central Australian terrain between Alice Springs and Aputula (Finke) and back again, it's widely regarded as one of the toughest off-road races in the world. Corrugations, deep sand, whoops, creek crossings, dust and relentless desert conditions test both rider and machine to their absolute limits. Just finishing is considered a major achievement.

Will's brother Jacob, who many of you will remember as our former apprentice, sent us this fantastic photo from the event. We couldn't help but notice the impressive trailer proudly displaying the local businesses backing Will's journey to the desert.

Will has always had the support of the team at Albany Motorcycles, and we're proud to see him lining up for such a milestone event. We'd also like to acknowledge the support of the Cranbrook Districts Motorcycle Club, who have been behind Will's racing journey as well.

From Gary and the entire Albany Motorcycles crew, we wish Will the very best for his Finke debut. Ride smart, stay safe, enjoy every kilometre, and make some unforgettable memories.

Some things are just meant to go together.

After successfully recovering his favourite registration plates from the Motor Registry, Gary has finally reunited BIG GAZ with his latest pride and joy... the Kawasaki KLE 500SE. 💚

And honestly, we reckon the plates suit the bike perfectly.

The KLE 500SE is one of Kawasaki's most versatile adventure machines, combining a responsive parallel twin engine, comfortable upright riding position, long-travel suspension and genuine all-round capability. Whether it's touring the highways, exploring the backroads or heading off on a weekend adventure, the KLE has built a loyal following for good reason.

But let's be honest...

As excited as Gary is about the bike itself, we're not entirely convinced he's as excited as he is about finally getting the BIG GAZ plates back where they belong.

The bike's looking sharp.
The plates are home.
And Gary is one very happy man.
