Never one to shy away from telling it how he sees it (much like myself) LPβs recent stance on rejecting Motorsport Australia getting involved in the βYes voteβ (for the Indigenous Voice to Parliament) is in my opinion, spot on. Note, I'm not talking about the actual βYes or Noβ discussion, itβs about sport being used as a political platform and after speaking with LP it seems he has a groundswell of support with his views on sport and politics - and rightly so!
To drag politics into sport, particularly something divisive, is simply crossing the line. This will potentially create divide where sport is something that actually does bring people together and is already all inclusive.
Sports in general is one of the few places left in life that, for at least a short time, people can get away from their day-to-day challenges and struggles that life is throwing at us and more importantly get away from things being stuffed down our throats from the political arena.
With several high profile sports in Australia recently getting on board to publicly support political agendas, what we really need to ask is why are they getting involved at all? Is it the lure of financial gain over truly helping society and if this is the case, it makes such a stance even worse. Sporting bodies are there to represent their members. I wonder if any of those members were even asked their opinion before public statements were made?
It's not for me or anyone else to judge what side of the fence anyone sits on with this particular subject and that is certainly not what this post is about. In my opinion, sport should not be used for vote gathering and points scoring.
