One very often over looked aspect of vehicle maintenance is the brake fluid.
Brake fluid is what is known as a hygroscopic fluid, meaning it tends to absorb water from the atmosphere. This builds up over a period of time and can lead to either system leaks due to cylinder corrosion or a phenomenon known as vapour lock, both of which will render the braking system completely useless and can lead to an incredibly dangerous situation.
As the concentration of water increases, your vehicle and it's occupants safety diminish drastically. Concentrations above 2% are deemed to be defectable and as such, if an accident were to occur, could lead to insurance being denied.
It is quite a simple process to "change out" the brake fluid and this will extend the life of your braking system and possibly your own.
If your fluid has not been analysed in the past 2 years, it should be checked to ensure every ones safety.
