This is something I didn't know, but somehow increases my respect for this man even more. And although he wasn't even an Aussie, we will continue our proud tradition of adopting Kiwis if it makes us look like better people.

Sam Neill has passed away aged 78.
Many people will remember him from Jurassic Park, but Aboriginal people also remember a small gesture that meant a lot.
In the 1997 film Event Horizon, Sam wore an Australian flag patch with the Aboriginal flag replacing the Union Jack.
He later said he believed Australia would become a republic and should properly acknowledge Aboriginal people and more than 60,000 years of history.
It was only a small detail in a movie, but it showed respect.
We saw it. We remembered it. And we appreciated it.
