Day 2 🏜️ PART 2 of 2: 🏁 Finke ➡️ Alice
That middle of the race was really tough, I wondered how I would get to the finish but tried to stay strong mentally and I am so incredibly grateful for the spectators and cheering fans who got me through! When I pulled into the 74km fuel stop with Ted Freckle racing, I took a break for around 5min, some nurofen, a wrist massage and a p*e to try and ease the lower pack pain.
Thankfully that was enough to get me through to deep well and then at 50km I finally got clean air where I got to my favourite section of the track between there and the off road club and I had 40km I could actually see where I was going and was very glad to tick off those bonnets at a much better pace. Till I slowed to check on a fallen rider on a dune, he was ok but I lost too much momentum and also ended up in the sand. My bike has never ever felt so heavy to pick up, I got it up the 2nd time. And as I did another rider slowed to check on me and also fell off but thankfully none of us were hurt. I was doing ok but the last 10km I caught another rider and between the dust and the evening shadows had to back off as I just couldn’t see the holes. So glad to come into the stadium and finish with my partner Ben, Mum and crew all waiting! Just grateful to be safe and get my spike.
I take my hat off to all the other competitors who crash and get back up as I’m lucky this is the first Finke I have crashed and boy was it tough! Congratulations to everyone who finished in those brutal dusty conditions and sending healing vibes to those who need it ❤️🩹
Thank you to all my sponsors and supporters!
