Who does it better? Part 2 of me VS my coach! Hitting some sand corners and focusing on getting on the throttle smoothly and sooner in a higher gear! Thanks Jayne White for the tips!

Might be brutal to watch, was definitely brutal to race fatigued! The not so glamorous side of racing the SA Off Road Championships. After feeling pretty happy with how I went the day before I was positive but the cold fogged everything up, I had to stop to clear my goggles a few times. The sight lap had a rock drop off, one tree corner was so tight I walked my bike, thankfully I only fell in the deep mud once. I stayed in the race for the girls so that I would help make enough entrants for a championship. The top girls sharing that they had to paddle the mud too helped and then a nice buzz to come in 3rd for 1 race lap. The fatigue from the day before impacted and the massive week before catching up as well as my back pain and trying to wrangle the 450 with Finke gearing plus I lent Ben to do the backup timing so I had no pit crew for the first half. Grateful to have him taking on the job of scraping massive amounts of mud out of my chain and bike for the later laps. Pretty proud I did it. That was soo tough.
Full race report to follow.

Some of it was fun and some of it was not! Jumping on the trend to show some of the reality behind the social media posts and the hours of driving to do these things and get to races. It’s not all romance and smiles but we are a team and we get through the challenges together ❤️ Ben Rawcliffe

🏁SA Off-Roads (SAORC) Race Report
Rd 5 - Sprints - Keilira, SA

A late night prepping the bike, a foggy start, wet 4WD track in with Ben’s capable driving avoiding us getting the trailer bogged. He put my “700” for the women’s class race number plates back on & I geared up for a big day! Loved lining up with the women for sight lap, positive vibes 💫 5.4km track, I took off into a few sandy corners where the 450 did a great job, I came upon a massive log with a long and & twisty chicken route, had to manoeuvre the bike around a tree for that! Sandy course & more log chicken routes & very tights scrub at the end but overall nothing too wild. I felt ok & prepped for the race sprints to start. Pretty much a Lap every 45min, possibly 10 for the day sounded like a lot! I just took it 1 lap at a time. Rode better the first race lap but still dropped the bike a couple of times. Another lap I got caught right up into a tree, had tried going a bit faster into the tight section where the bars scraped trunks on both sides but it was a little slick, I lost traction & scratched up the top of my right fender on a tree. 1 lap at a time. Ben out filming a couple sections or being there in the pits for support made the day easier. I was very excited to have a few laps staying upright after the crashes. I enjoyed the manageable length of the technical course. By the 9th sprint I was fatiguing and struggled with energy so glad it was the last! My back held up well, a bit sore but nothing I couldn’t manage. Overall a success and the first off roads race I’d felt not totally out of my depth, definitely helped being looked after and having a driver on the way up!
4️⃣th for the Women’s class Rd 5

Then ➡️ now. Racing with this cool chick Theresa Liersch since 2022. My very first offroads was with Tee at the same property in Keilira, Kingston, though a different track. I don’t know how we did it. It was combined with the national round too. We both worked so hard to finish the race back then with our old bikes, I honestly had no idea 🤩 2008 wr for me and kickstart yz for Tee. I reckon that race was when I figure out who Jess Gardiner was!! and now after big life changes we are back racing together the same property in 2026 for the off roads on our flash nearly new bikes! So thankful for the top chicks I have met racing. Come join us!! 💕🫶
