We thought the second side would be the easy one.

After everything we had learned on the starboard side, we already knew the repair and had solved most of the problems once before.

And in one way, it actually was easier: Daniel had learned enough from the first side to take on much more of the repair himself, which helped speed things up quite a bit.

But plenty was still different.

Maarten took over the welding, and then we reached the first knee. A part we hadn’t to replace at all on the other side.

Same repair. Same ship. But definitely not the same experience.

Not every shipyard job is about cutting and welding steel.

Sometimes it’s all about preparation.

Before the painting could start, we first had to carefully tape off the waterline. One of those small jobs that makes a big difference to the final result.

It’s one of those jobs that doesn’t look like much, but if you want a clean result, getting this part right really matters.

More from the shipyard soon. ⚓

A new stringer for Flying Coney. ⚒️

Replacing the damaged frames was only part of the job.

The original stringer had to come out with them and it was too badly corroded to reinstall.

So Hendrik had to build a completely new one.

Step by step, he used clamps, heat and a lot of experience to bend the heavy steel into the shape of our 76-year-old ship before welding everything permanently into place.

And with that, one entire side of the structural repair is finally finished.

One more major piece of Flying Coney’s structure is going back in.

The original stringer was too badly corroded to repair, so we had to build a completely new one and make it fit the shape of our historic steel ship.

A lot of clamping, bending and welding later, we are getting very close to another big milestone.

New video tomorrow. ⚓

We knew the shipyard would probably bring some surprises.
We just really hoped it wouldn’t happen this time.

While replacing Flying Coney’s frames, we reached two special double frames and suddenly the repair became much more complicated than we had planned.

Normally, an unexpected job simply means more time.

But this time we had a deadline we couldn’t move. Barbara was already pregnant, Angeline was due only a few weeks later, and Flying Coney still had to be repaired, launched and brought all the way back to Germany.

We found a large piece of timber wedged deep inside Flying Coney’s bilge.

How are we going to get it out?

And why is it there?

Our new video is out today on YouTube.

Cutting, grinding and welding our way through one of the biggest repairs on Flying Coney.

But how could so much of her steel structure disappear in the first place?

Later today, we are finally sharing the beginning of the biggest repair we have tackled on Flying Coney so far.

After a long time preparing for this moment, the damaged frames are cut out and the first new steel goes back into the ship.

This is where the frame repair truly begins.

400,000 views and 7,000 new subscribers! Thank you for the most incredible restart!

After such a long break, we could never have imagined this response to our comeback movie. Thank you to everyone who watched, subscribed, commented and welcomed Flying Coney back.

Later today, the next chapter begins.
In the first episode of our new shipyard series, we haul our 82-foot ship out of the water and pressure-wash the hull after one year in the water.
It marks the beginning of the biggest structural repair we have tackled so far: replacing the damaged frames inside the ship.

We are so happy to have you with us for this next chapter.

For everyone who has been with us for years, it is a chance to revisit the journey.

And for everyone who joined more recently, it is the perfect place to begin.

After the recap, the story continues with brand-new episodes.

Join us for the YouTube Premiere this Friday at 6 pm UTC.
We will both be there in the live chat and would love to watch the movie together with you.
