1. Oil Viscosity: What Is It?
Viscosity refers to an oil’s resistance to flow. It determines how well the oil lubricates the engine under different temperature conditions.
📌 Low viscosity – means the oil is thinner and flows more easily at low temperatures.
📌 High viscosity – provides better protection at high temperatures but may be too thick in the cold.
2. How to Read the Label (e.g., 10W-30)?
🔹 First part – “10W” (Winter)
• The number before W (winter) indicates how well the oil flows in cold weather. The lower the number, the better it performs in low temperatures.
• For example, 0W or 5W are ideal for extreme cold, while 10W is suitable for moderate climates.
🔹 Second part – “30”
• Indicates the oil’s viscosity at engine operating temperature (100°C).
• The higher the number, the thicker the oil remains at high temperatures. For example, 30 is a medium viscosity, while 40 or 50 are used for high-performance engines.
3. What Does API SN Mean?
API (American Petroleum Institute) sets quality standards for engine oils.
