What your car actually needs in the Dubai heat.

Three cars came through the workshop this week. A Porsche 911 GT2 RS, a Mercedes AMG G 63 and a Bentley Continental GT Convertible. Different cars, same climate, and a different list for each one.

A few things that catch owners out here:

Brake fluid pulls water out of the air. Wet fluid boils sooner, and that is what turns a firm pedal soft.

Tyres harden with heat and age long before the tread runs out. Read the date on the sidewall as well as the depth.

Radiators sit low at the front where sand collects, and a blocked radiator cannot shed heat.

Swipe for all twelve checks. Slide five is the one to save: three questions worth asking any garage before you hand over your keys.

Your battery is not going to die in December. It is dying right now, at 40 degrees.

Every 8 degrees above 25 roughly halves the life of a battery. The heat does the damage in September. The first cool morning just sends the bill.

And on a BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Volkswagen, Porsche or Volvo, the new one has to be registered to the car. If it is not, you will buy that battery twice.
