Motorcycle Carburetor: How It Works and the Role of the Float
The carburetor is an important part of a motorcycle's fuel system. Its job is to mix the correct amount of air and fuel before sending it into the engine for combustion. A properly working carburetor helps the bike start easily, idle smoothly, and deliver good performance and fuel economy.
How a Carburetor Works
Air enters through the air filter and flows into the carburetor.
As air passes through the narrow section called the venturi, it creates a low-pressure area.
This low pressure draws fuel from the carburetor bowl through jets.
The fuel mixes with the incoming air.
The air-fuel mixture then enters the engine cylinder, where it is compressed and ignited.
What Is the Float?
The float is a small component inside the carburetor's fuel bowl. It works like the float inside a water tank.
Its main job is to maintain the correct fuel level in the carburetor:
When the fuel level drops, the float moves down and opens the needle valve, allowing more fuel to enter.
When the fuel reaches the proper level, the float rises and closes the valve, stopping the fuel flow.
Common Float Problems
πŸ”Ή Float stuck open β†’ Fuel overflow and leakage.
πŸ”Ή Float stuck closed β†’ Engine starves for fuel and may not start.
πŸ”Ή Incorrect float height β†’ Poor fuel economy, rough idling, and performance issues.
πŸ”Ή Damaged float needle β†’ Fuel continuously enters the bowl, causing flooding.
Why Float Adjustment Is Important
A correctly adjusted float ensures: βœ… Proper fuel supply to the engine
βœ… Smooth idling and acceleration
βœ… Better fuel consumption
βœ… Easy starting
βœ… Prevention of fuel overflow
Regular carburetor cleaning and float inspection can prevent many common motorcycle starting and performance problems.

Do you know what causes a bike’s Chain sprocket set to wear out quickly? βš™οΈπŸοΈ

No matter how good or expensive your gear set is πŸ’Έ
if it is not maintained properly, it can get damaged quickly ❌

For example:
⛓️ Not tightening the chain on time
πŸ›’οΈ Not lubricating the chain regularly
πŸ›‘οΈ Riding without a chain cover
⚠️ Ignoring regular maintenance

All these things can cause the gear set to wear out faster 😟
and then your bike may start making noise, giving jerks, and causing extra repair expenses πŸ”§πŸ’°

If you want your bike’s gear set to last longer πŸ’―
make sure to regularly clean, lubricate, and maintain the chain properly βœ…

A small precaution can save you from big expenses 🀝❀️

One day, a customer brought a motorcycle to our workshop and was extremely worried. 😟
The customer explained:
πŸ‘‰ "The kick starter has no resistance at all. When I try to kick-start the bike, I hear a chattering sound, but the engine won't start."
He also mentioned that: πŸ”Ή Fuel supply was normal
πŸ”Ή Ignition current was present
πŸ”Ή The spark plug was in good condition
Despite all of this, the motorcycle still would not start properly.
It would occasionally start with a push, but as soon as the throttle was released, the engine would stall immediately. ⚠️
We carried out a complete inspection of the motorcycle. πŸ”
The fuel system, ignition system, and most other components appeared to be functioning correctly. However, one issue became very clear:
πŸ‘‰ The engine was not producing proper compression.
At that point, we suspected that the problem was inside the cylinder head.
After removing and inspecting the cylinder head, the actual fault was revealed: πŸ‘‡
❌ The exhaust valve was completely burnt.
❌ The intake valve and valve seat were heavily worn.
As a result: πŸ”Ή Compression was leaking.
πŸ”Ή The kick starter felt weak and lacked resistance.
πŸ”Ή The motorcycle could not start or run properly.
To fix the problem, we: βœ” Installed new valves.
βœ” Replaced the valve seals.
βœ” Performed proper cylinder head fitting and gasket installation.
After reassembly and testing, Alhamdulillah: πŸ‘‡
βœ… Compression was fully restored.
βœ… The kick starter regained proper resistance.
βœ… The motorcycle started easily.
βœ… The engine ran smoothly.
βœ… The customer was very satisfied. 😊
Conclusion
Not every motorcycle fault is caused by fuel or ignition problems. ❌
Sometimes the real issue lies within the engine itself, such as valve damage, compression loss, or cylinder head defects. πŸ”§
Lesson Learned
A motorcycle problem cannot be diagnosed accurately without a thorough inspection.
A true mechanic is one who identifies the root cause of the fault rather than simply replacing parts. πŸ”₯

🏍️ Is Your Bike Starting to Smoke? Burning Oil? Don’t Rush to Spend Thousands! 😳

Many riders get worried and think the entire engine needs a complete rebuild with huge expenses πŸ’Έ

But friends, if your CD 70, 125, 150, or 200 has started smoking or consuming oil for the first time, it doesn’t always mean you need a full engine overhaul πŸ”§βœ¨

βœ… Cylinder is opened and inspected
βœ… Head is being checked
βœ… Piston rings are replaced
βœ… Your bike can be restored at a much lower cost πŸ”₯

If quality rings are installed properly:
βœ”οΈ Smoke can be greatly reduced
βœ”οΈ Oil consumption can decrease
βœ”οΈ Bike performance improves
βœ”οΈ And you can save thousands of rupees πŸ’―

⚠️ The key is getting the job done by a skilled mechanic.

If you want me to explain the complete process:
πŸ”§ How piston rings are checked
πŸ”§ Which rings are best
πŸ”§ Estimated cost of the repair
πŸ”§ And how to keep your bike performing at its best for a long time
