RAIN PERIOD: WASH MY CAR, NECESSARY OR NOT

Introduction
Dilemma as to whether we have to wash our cars during rain periods! Do we assume that rain washes our cars? After all, wash the car and rain comes and spoils our cars again. This article will take us into what really rain is, effects of rain on our cars, ways of countering them and proper recommendations as to whether we should wash cars during such times.

What is rain?
Water in form of vapour gets into the air from reservoirs and forms clouds in the sky. As the vapour accumulates, clouds get darker and darker due to condensation (change from gas to liquid). As water (liquid) becomes heavier than air (gas) air ultimately gets to a stage where it can no longer hold more water (precipitation) and water drips out of clouds down to the ground. It starts to mix with a lot of substances such as nitrogen, hydrogen, carbon dioxide, dust and many other pollutants. By the time it reaches the ground, it will no longer be water, but rain (a mixture of water and pollutants). If rain’s PH is tested, it is acidic, meaning it is an acid solution since it reacts with a lot of hydrogen and other substances as it falls.

Effects of rain on our cars
Rain is corrosive because of its acidic nature. It causes wearing off of paint though in the long run. It mixes with other dirt particles on the car surface making a tough mixture of a very tough nonsense. Rain causes rust to unpainted underneath parts of our cars; chassis, thyroid ends, drive shafts, brake discs and drums, wheels (rims) etc. Rain causes our cars’ paint to fade out and look dim.

Countering rain on our cars
Washing our cars with soap and clean water soon after every rain session to clear all rain remains from the car. This will neutralise the acidic rain solution.
Not wiping off the rain because we will be cementing the bond between the rain and our paint. At the same time we will be scratching our paint with hardened dust.
Using a high pressure washer will moisten and blow hardened dust off the paint.
Waxing our cars once every week will ensure a protective layer is installed on top of our paint and rain will not get in touch with the paint.
Avoiding dipping our cars in stagnant rain pools will safeguard our underneath parts from corrosion.
Parking our cars in sheds but not under tress will protect our cars from rain.

Conclusion
As seen herein, rain is not, and will never be a friend to a motorist. In fact it is one of the worst enemies. Ensuring our cars play away from rain will assure us of more life to them. Rain is acidic and hence it reacts with our cars’ paint, resulting in corrosion which causes fading out of our paint. It also causes rust on underneath parts. We should avoid rain on our cars by all means; parking them away from rain accessible areas, washing them regularly, not using rain water and waxing our cars more often.

Engine compartment (engine bay) cleaning.
This clears the engine bay of all leakings that attract dust, dust that prevents you from identifying mechanical faults, litter that can easily catch fire to your car, nests of rodents that can damage electric cables and fluid pipes among a lot of other things. CLEANING CAR WINDOWS
Introduction
Windows are one of the main indicators of dirt on our cars. We all know what 'clean me' or 'wash me' on our windows entails. On some paticular note, a dirty windscreen causes blurred view when driving, posing us and others to a serious risk of accidents. Some dirt on windows might be difficult to remove if allowed to stay for long. As car owners and users, we agree that cleaning of windows sounds a minor job but in reality the practical session has taught us some lesson on how tough it is to produce spotlessly clear windows. It is therefore prudent that we are able to get rid of dirt on our vehicles' windows. Today's tip lies on some simple way to clean our windows to a glittering spotless standard. We can do this at our homes without visiting a car wash.

Sources of window dirt
Windows get dirt from a number of sources. Rain wind, dust, greases, oils, users' hands, birds insects are the prime origins. Some dashboards and panels are made of plastic (vinyl) which contains oils that evaporate and settle on our windscreen insides and make them look misty. We also have to note the significance of cleaning materials as a source of very tough dirt. Usually when we clean our cars a lot of dirt accumulates on our windows from our towels not forgetting the scratches that we install on the shining surfaces.

Materials needed
1. Clean microfibre towels
2. Vinegar
3. Clean water
4. Spray bottle
5. Glass cleaner

The task
Always make sure your car is parked in the shed, away from direct sunlight. Sunlight causes cleaned surfaces to dry faster hence evaporating water only, leaving dirt streaks on window surfaces. These stains are very difficult if not impossible to remove.
Wipe off all the dust or moisture using a microfibre towel. If the dirt is more serious it would require cleaning the window with water first, apply some soapy solution, rub with a soft cloth and rinse with clean water. (Any tougher dirt would require high pressure blasting from a car wash).
Mix one portion of water and one portion of white vinegar to form a non-toxic solution. Spray the solution on a microfibre towel (not on the window). Spraying on the window might worsen the task since the solution would splatter on panels and dashboard which will also need to be cleaned. Gently rub the soaked microfibre towel on the window applying more pressure on tougher stains. The vinegar solution will degrease all oils and dissolve tough dirt on the window.
Use dry microfibre towel to wipe the dirty solutionoff the window surface in longitudinal and latitudinal motions leaving no place unattended. These motions do not create visible scratches like circular motions do.
Spray some glass cleaner (like Windex or Windowlene) on a dry microfibre towel apply it on the window. Wipe the window with a clean dry microfibre towel again in latitudinal and longitudinal motions. This will polish your windows and leave them spectecularly clean. Try this simple method and enjoy the wonders. Done!

Conclusion
As noted on earlier tips, vinegar is a super tough stain remover including on windows. Mixed with water it forms a super non-toxic solution that can be used to clean a number of material on our cars. Use of clean and dry microfibres is the centre of cleaning windows to avoid scratches and producing shining window surfaces. Heavily dirty windows come with heavily stained car surfaces hence the need to take the car for a wash.
