This is the BMW N42/N46 engine — widely used across the E46, E90, E84, E60, and E87 — and easily one of the most debated engines in our Zimbabwean market.

At Mesa & Sons, we’ve worked on quite a number of these engines, and one thing stands out:
Maintenance is everything!

When serviced correctly and on time, the N42/N46 can be smooth, efficient, and reliable. But neglect it, and it quickly turns into a chain of costly problems — from oil consumption and timing issues to cooling system failures.
