*Civil Servants Rebate/Duty Free Requirements & Procedures*
The applicant must have served at least 10 years of continuous service in the government , and for Ministry of Health workers, at least 2 years of continuous service.
The applicant should also not be under any disciplinary proceedings at the time of application
*Procedures*
The Applicant pays for their vehicle so that they get Profoma Invoice, Final Invoice and bill of lading
The applicant then writes an application letter to the relevant ministry furnishing them with the following
▪️Driver's Licence- Certificate of Competency accepted.
▪️Papers of the vehicle purchased, i.e., proforma, invoice, and bill of lading
▪️Payslip
▪️Proof of residence
The respective Ministry will then vet the applicant, and if successful, write a recommendation letter to the Public Service Commission.
The Public Service Comission processes the papers and fowards them to the Ministry of Finance.
If the applicant is successful , the Ministry of Finance then grants the rebate of duty on a motor vehicle with a maximum Duty value of $4000 for Grade D and E employees, $2500 for grade B and C employees, $10 000 for Deputy directors and $15 000 specialists Doctors. Ministry of Finance issues a letter authorizing the applicant to import the vehicle under the rebate and copies the ZIMRA commissioner.
The applicant will then approach the local ZIMRA office close to where they reside and make an application for the rebate.
The local ZIMRA office will issue a rebate letter, which the applicant will provide at the port of entry, and follow all customs motor vehicle clearance processes. The vehicle must be less than 10 years at the time of importation.
