If your daily routine consists of short trips to work, school or the shops, here’s something you may not know…

Your engine needs time to reach its ideal operating temperature. On short journeys, it often doesn’t get the chance.

This can lead to:
🔧 Increased engine wear.
⛽ Higher fuel consumption.
💧 Moisture building up in the engine oil.
🌫️ Carbon deposits forming over time.

The good news? 🤷‍♂️ It’s an easy fix! 👏🏻

Every now and then, take your vehicle for a longer drive—around 20 to 30 minutes—especially at highway speeds where it’s safe and legal to do so. This allows the engine to warm up properly, helping it run more efficiently and reducing unnecessary wear.

Sometimes, the best thing you can do for your car… is simply take it for a drive 🚘

If you’ve been wiping down your furniture only to find another layer of dust a few hours later… you’re not imagining it! 😅😵‍💫

The August winds are back, bringing dusty homes, itchy sinuses… and plenty of dust for your vehicle too.

While a dusty car might just look untidy, the real concern is what you can’t see.

Fine dust can:
🚗 Clog your engine air filter, making your engine work harder.
❄️ Reduce the efficiency of your air-conditioning cabin filter, affecting the air you breathe inside your vehicle.
🔧 Find its way into moving components, increasing wear over time if maintenance is neglected.

This windy season is a great reminder to have your vehicle’s filters checked during its next service.

‼️ Clean filters help your engine perform better, improve fuel efficiency and keep the air inside your vehicle fresher.‼️

After all… if the dust is settling inside your home, imagine what your car is driving through every day! 🫣🤯

Here’s a tip many drivers have never heard before…

🚗↕️ When you park, try to straighten your steering wheel before switching off the engine 🚗↕️

Why? 🤷‍♂️🤔💭

👉 Leaving your wheels turned all the way to the left or right for long periods can place unnecessary stress on steering and suspension components. It can also make pulling away less smooth and, over time, contribute to uneven tyre wear.

It only takes a second to straighten your wheels, but it’s a simple habit that helps reduce unnecessary strain on your vehicle.

Small habits like these can make a big difference over the life of your car.

🚗🧠 Did you know? Your car’s computers are more powerful than the guidance computer used during the Apollo Moon missions! 🌕✨

Modern vehicles are far more advanced than most people realize. Hidden beneath the bonnet is a network of computers working together to keep your vehicle running smoothly, safely, and efficiently.

The main computer, known as the Engine Control Unit (ECU), constantly receives information from various sensors throughout your vehicle. Every second, it makes thousands of calculations to ensure the engine is performing at its best.

🔧 The ECU helps manage:
✅ Fuel consumption
✅ Engine performance and power delivery
✅ Ignition timing
✅ Emissions control
✅ Idle speed and engine efficiency

When something isn’t working correctly, your vehicle’s computers detect the problem and often trigger a warning light on your dashboard. While it may be tempting to ignore that little light, it could be warning you about anything from a loose fuel cap to a more serious engine issue.

💡 Fun fact: Modern vehicles can contain anywhere from 30 to over 100 electronic control units, all communicating with each other while you drive!

That’s why today’s vehicle repairs often require advanced diagnostic equipment and expert knowledge. A proper diagnostic scan can pinpoint issues quickly, saving you time, money, and unnecessary repairs.

⚠️ If your check engine light is on, don’t guess—get it checked!

At Hi Tech Workshop, we use professional diagnostic tools to accurately identify faults and help keep your vehicle running safely and efficiently.

Book your diagnostic check today and let our team keep your vehicle performing at its peak 📞 071 411 8961

🌧️ With a few wet days still on the radar, it’s the perfect time to talk about one of the biggest rainy-weather driving hazards: hydroplaning 🚗💦💥

What is Hydroplaning?

👉 Hydroplaning happens when your tyres lose contact with the road because a layer of water builds up between the tyre and the road surface. Instead of gripping the road, your vehicle starts to glide on top of the water.

Think of it as your car trying to water-ski… except nobody signed up for that! 🫣😅

Signs You’re Hydroplaning:

⚠️ The steering suddenly feels light or unresponsive
⚠️ The engine revs increase without accelerating normally
⚠️ The vehicle feels like it’s drifting or floating
⚠️ You struggle to control the direction of the vehicle

What Causes Hydroplaning?

💧 Standing water on the road
🚗 Driving too fast for wet conditions
🛞 Worn or underinflated tyres
🌧️ Heavy rainfall

What Should You Do If It Happens?

✅ Stay calm
✅ Ease off the accelerator
✅ Keep the steering wheel pointed in the direction you want to go
✅ Avoid sudden braking or sharp steering movements
✅ Wait for the tyres to regain contact with the road

How to Reduce Your Risk:

✔️ Check your tyre tread regularly
✔️ Keep your tyres properly inflated
✔️ Slow down when roads are wet
✔️ Avoid puddles and standing water where possible
✔️ Ensure your suspension and wheel alignment are in good condition

Did You Know?

At speeds as low as 55 km/h, a thin layer of water can start reducing tyre grip. The faster you drive, the greater the risk of hydroplaning.

🌦️ Rainy weather doesn’t have to be risky. A little caution and properly maintained tyres can make a big difference when the roads are wet.

Not sure if your tyres are still road-trip ready? Pop in for a tyre inspection and let us help keep you safe 🚗🛠️

Ever noticed this button in your car but never pressed it? 👀🤔

The button shown is the rear window defogger/demister button.

🌫️😶‍🌫️ Its primary purpose is to heat the rear window and clear condensation, mist, or frost, helping you maintain visibility in colder or wetter conditions.

But here’s something many drivers don’t know 👇

On many modern vehicles, especially mid-range and higher-spec models, pressing this button also activates the heated side mirrors. The mirrors are often linked to the same circuit and will warm up automatically when the rear defogger is turned on, helping to clear mist and improve visibility.

It’s a simple feature that can make a big difference when driving in foggy, rainy, or cold weather 🌧️❄️

Next time your windows or mirrors are misty, look for this button and give it a try!
