Gearbox Tuning Isn’t a Trend — It’s Always Been Required!

Modern vehicles don’t let the engine “just make power”
Everything is torque-controlled, especially the gearbox.
From factory, the TCU:
• Limits torque per gear
• Reduces power during shifts
• Skip-shifts gears to meet emissions tests
• Uses high hydraulic pressure to force fast corrections
That’s fine on a stock vehicle.
Once power is increased, those same strategies cause:
• Gear hunting
• Hesitation
• Clunky shifts
• Excess heat
• Accelerated internal wear

What a Proper TCU Tune Really Does
We don’t “speed up shifts” or make them harsh.
We recalibrate how the gearbox thinks.
In simple terms:
✔️ We align the gearbox’s torque model with the engine’s real output
✔️ We control clutch pressure properly instead of shocking it
✔️ We remove erratic skip-shift behaviour
✔️ We stabilise torque converter lock-up to reduce slip and heat
✔️ We make each gear change predictable and synchronised
Result: The engine and gearbox stop fighting each other.

Why Our TCU Calibrations Are Different
Most gearbox tunes:
• Raise pressure everywhere
• Disable limits blindly
• Chase “firm shifts”
That feels impressive.... until clutches and drums start suffering.
Our calibrations are data-driven:
• Pressure is increased only where load requires it
• Torque reduction is reshaped, not deleted
• Shift logic is rewritten, not overridden
• Longevity is engineered, not guessed
This is why our vehicles shift smoother and last longer!

Brand new Land Cruiser in for some well needed ECU Software, Gearbox Calibration and Speed limit removal (standard at 150km/h)

Technical post:

Many may not have known but there are a few changes between the 2.8 Land Cruiser vs the 2.8 Hilux/fortuner
Except for totally different gear and diff ratios the GD6 powerplant also comes equipped with a Charge cooler instead of a intercooler on the Land Cruiser.

A charge cooler, also known as a water-to-air intercooler, can potentially improve torque more effectively than a traditional air-to-air intercooler.

A charge cooler uses water or coolant to absorb heat from the compressed air coming from the turbo before it enters the engine.
This method is typically more efficient at cooling the intake air, especially in situations where airflow is limited, such as during low-speed driving or off-road conditions.

Cooler air is denser, which means more oxygen enters the combustion chamber, allowing for more fuel to be burned, thereby increasing torque.

In contrast, an air-to-air intercooler relies solely on outside air to cool the compressed air. While effective at high speeds when airflow is abundant, it may not cool as effectively in situations where airflow is reduced.

Because charge coolers generally provide more consistent cooling, they can help maintain higher torque levels across a broader range of conditions compared to air-to-air intercoolers.

Often customers think what we have to offer is too good to be true!!
Fitted with a full exhaust and downpipe this beast sounded absolutely amazing but unfortunately was averaging between 12-13L/100km!!

With all the extras this van has been kitted with adds to the laden weight and raising the body does the aerodynamics no favours, luckily we were able to jump in and offer a package of Stage 2 Economy remap calibrated to a gearbox map that really does transform this van!!

Economy maps we develop mean a completely smoke free drive that is significantly more powerful than stock but has the affinity to get substantially better fuel consumption than stock because the air fuel ratios are still nice and lean but there's heaps more power and torque to shunt this Legend through the gears sooner really running in the optimum Rev range that diesels love which is as low as possible!!

Revs will always kill consumption on a diesel and many of our clients are so shocked to see just how much you can utilize the torque after our remapping instead of over revving these vans to accelerate or overtake!!

Hilux Legend 2.8 GD6 Auto

Constant development on these latest models of Hilux 2.4GD6 & 2.8GD6 mean we have ever improving results with many different options of tunes available.

Power orientated remapping is available, but the Economy mapping is the focus for the majority of vehicles we do, which means we offer and 50/50 package that keeps air fuel ratios nice and lean at around 20:1 with perfect fine tuned mapping that improves over stock in any possible way.

On Turbo Diesel engines, a lean air fuel ratio is very healthy and cooler running while also extracting slightly more power from each engine cycle by burning Diesel more thoroughly.

This means more power while using less fuel... if this isn't a win-win situation, then I'm not sure what is!!

Ironically, the new Toyota GD6 engine range is so inhibited by European emission standards they actually become heavier on fuel than a lot of the D4D and GD6 derivatives before them.

Thanks to the strick Co2 emission standards, they end up having their power governed far sooner than they would in countries with like ours with dirty diesel.

This is what makes for the erratic Auto gearboxes because their calibrations are programmed for the power they are supposed to produce, which they just aren't making here.

Our Stage 1 and Stage 2 Files have been tested and drastically improved your power delivery and fixed the erratic gearbox issues. Best of all is that we can programe more than 1 of our maps using the function of the POWER and ECO mode buttons to give more customer input and adjustments.

Our software is 100% undetectable by the agents and will have no effect on Warrenty systems in place.

Ford Wildtrak 3.0 V6 and Everest 2.0 bi-turbo in for our Unichip X performance Solution.

The Unichip differs from most other plug and play chips which only alter fuel rail or boost pressure to gain extra performance.
The Unichip receives fuel pressure readings together with boost, timing and throttle position inputs to create 3D maps much like a software remap to create a much more balanced, refined and safer solution.
