After having fun in the Red Dunes of the Kalahari the group headed for the Kalahari Pans, The Koo Pan and the Haksteen Pan.
The Haksteen Pan:
On 16 November 2019, Bloodhound LSR reached 628 mph (1,010 km/h) during its high-speed testing at Hakskeen Pan, driven by Andy Green. The run reached 600 mph in roughly 50 seconds.
It was the high-speed testing phase for Bloodhound's planned record attempt. The existing outright world land-speed record remained 763.035 mph (1,227.985 km/h).
Bloodhound's 628 mph was nevertheless an astonishing test speed — and the team described Hakskeen Pan as the world's best straight-line race track.
The Hakskeen Pan track wasn't simply sitting there waiting for Bloodhound. The local Mier community cleared about 16,500 tonnes of rock from 22 million square metres of dry lakebed to make the track suitable for the car.
Each evening after their adventure the group returned to the Kalahari Molopo Lodge camp, a truly luxury campsite with a swimming pool and each camp has it's own ablutions and lapa. The lodge provided a long table for the 12 adventurers as well as freshly baked breads, butter and jams.
Experiences were shared around the communal camp fire and in the morning they enjoyed a delicious breakfast at the lodge.
The group is currently at Rienvasmaak where there is no cell phone reception so hopefully photos will follow soon.
