Smartphone Connectivity Now Most Common New-Vehicle Problem, Ram Ranks Highest Overall in Initial Quality: J.D. Power

New-vehicle quality improves 2% from 2020, according to the J.D. Power 2021 U.S. Initial Quality Study, released Aug. 31, slightly lower than the average rate of improvement (3%) seen during the past decade. Infotainment systems are the primary area preventing faster improvement, remaining the most problematic area for new-vehicle owners.

Chevy Temporarily Halts Bolt Production Amid Latest Recall Due to Battery Issues

Chevrolet has temporarily halted Chevy Bolt production after multiple recalls for battery defects. “We will not resume repairs or restart production until we are confident LG is producing defect-free products for us,” GM spokesman Daniel Flores said.

Miles Driven Report Continues to Show Travel Increase

June 2021 saw 35.7 billion more vehicle miles logged than June 2020. Travel for June 2021 was approximately 282.5 billion vehicle miles. Seasonally adjusted, 267 billion miles were traveled in June 2021, an increase of 14.9% or 34.7 billion vehicle miles over June 2020. This also represents a 1.7% increase or 4.5 billion vehicle miles compared to May 2021.

FCA Recalling Ram Pickups for Side-Curtain Air Bags that May Rupture

An FCA U.S. investigation discovered certain vehicles may be equipped with air-bag inflators that were contaminated by moisture during the supplier’s manufacturing process. Such inflators may rupture, even without air-bag deployment, possibly sending debris into the cabin.
