Let’s talk about weight savings for a minute. 👀 have had several customer asking us how much titanium hardware really maters and if its worth the money and how much weight you can actually save...
There’s been some claims floating around about loosing 10 to 14 lbs off of these bikes with titanium hardware, trimmed plastics, etc.
So instead of guessing… we actually broke it down and weighed everything.
Here’s what we found:
✔ All replaceable hardware that can be swaped to titanium and still be legal. (You cannot replace the front axle or rear axle or anything internally)
Stock: 33.2oz
✔️Titanium “best case 50% weight”: 16.9 oz
👉 ~17.2 oz saved
✔ Shock spring Stock: 10.2 oz
✔️Aftermarket: 3.2 oz
👉 ~7 oz saved per spring (~14 oz total depending on setup, this is also based on the softest lightest spring available so very well could be to soft for your rider)
✔ Plastics (front & rear fenders)
Stock: ~17.2 oz
Trimmed missing half the plastics “best case”: ~8.6 oz
👉 ~8.6 oz saved
✔ Tubes
Stock: 15.8 oz
Lightweight: 7.9 oz
👉 ~7.9 oz saved
✔ Small completely removable components
(exhaust shield, tank fins, mudflaps, etc.)
👉 ~6.8 oz saved
Total “best case” realistic savings:
👉 ~54.5 oz (≈ 3.4 lbs)
The any reputable builder gussets the frames so that alone is close to adding half a pound to the frame just to make them withstand the abuse....
And for reference — yes, if you start removing major components like tires, and dont replace ANYTHING else you've taken off you can get closer to those bigger numbers… (as shown in last pic including all replaceable hardware, the few completely removable parts, 2 tires, 2 oem (not hd) tubes, 2 oem shock springs, complete set of plastics and the seat foam... 11lb 4oz)
👉 But at that point, the bike won’t go around the track very well. 😅
Bottom line:
Even in a best case scenario, you’re working with a few pounds total — not double digits.
Real weight savings on these bikes come in ounces, not double digit pounds.
We’re all for improving performance… but it has to be based on real numbers, not marketing numbers.
This post isn't meant to discredit anyone just putting out the actual numbers and set realistic expectations for customers.
With all this said if you want the ti hardware and all the other trinkets and want to spend the money we are more than happy to do it for you, i mean it is trick for sure... but in no way am I going to tell you that its going to make any more of a difference than the difference in gate height or the rut in front of the gate bike a and bike b have to go over / through when the gate drops.
Build them right. Keep it honest. 💪
