Silver State Challenge Aborted 1989
The plan was to enter the Nevada Silver State race. We had prepped a brand new Prototype LS400. Toyota Eurospec brakes.and suspension, custom 2.7 L*D rearend, Catlytic bypass with 2.5 exhaust, oversize radiator and oil cooler (engine, transmission, rear end).
From our calculations- easy class win by over 30 mph over standing record.
The glitch- Goodyear who was supplying the race tires was in deep argument with Lexus engineers on the OEM tire spec that Goodyear recommended against what Lexus engineers wanted.
Turned into a pi***ng contest. Lexus asked for the car back.
The class record 1989 and our attempted speed at that time, could have stood for 27 years.
It could have been an easy record and a worldwide Lexus first.
