Yes, we still resurface rotors. I know most shops will only replace them, but as long as they are still within spec, they can be safely resurfaced.

Also, we will never do, or recommend a "pad slap". The rotor surface must always be addressed. Either with a resurface if thick enough, or a replacement if not.

Here is an example of why.

you can't tell what the surface of the rotor truly is by looking at it.

This is one cut across the braking surface. The shiny sections are where it cut, the dark spots, the blade went straight across and never touched. because that surface is lower.

the end result is as good as new, but cost significantly less.

Two major problems with the first picture, one of them being very obvious, the other one not as easy to identify.

The obvious, the rotor is ground way down to unsafe levels.

The not so obvious however is the retaining clips. These must be removed/discarded with aftermarket wheels. Factory wheels will have a relief cutout for that retainer, however most aftermarket wheels will not.

The 2nd pic show the wheel mounting surface is flat. With the clip on there, the wheel cannot sit flush against the hub/axle and is never able to get properly tight. This can lead to the lug nuts coming loose and potentially the tire coming off.

Make sure if swapping to aftermarket wheels, that these type of retention clips get removed.

If you start hearing noise from your brakes, get them checked as soon as possible!

Finally a comparison of the well worn old rotor, with the fresh new one.
