The Toyota Avalon was brought in due to a clunking noise from the rear and a non-functional driver's side door locking mechanism. Both of these issues have been successfully addressed. Additional work is required, and it is worth noting that the vehicle is in excellent condition for its age.

That made it look like the solenoid was the problem, but it wasn't. The real issue was that the power cable from the solenoid to the starter motor had broken internally in a spot that wasn't obvious during a visual inspection. Even though voltage was present at the solenoid, the starter motor never actually received the current it needed.

Once the broken power wire was repaired, the starter worked normally and the equipment fired right up.

It's a good reminder that voltage alone doesn't guarantee current flow—a hidden break in a cable can pass a voltage reading under some conditions but fail when the circuit needs to deliver the high current required by a starter motor.
