The Desotomaxx is a '56 Desoto Fireflight powered by a 1300RWHP Duramax

What started as a joke has turned into an all out performance build for a 200 mph salt flat diesel powered racer. Shooting for the title "World's Fastest Desoto" and other titles, the project goal is 200 mph at Bonneville salt flats, while still retaining the great street-ability of a diesel with classic looks. Came back to the salt with something different this year: the Steinegger Eshenbaugh fuel lakester running 181ci on 100% nitromethane.

First time out with a fresh build since 2019, 217mph off the trailer will do! Ran into a few small issues, ending our 2026 Speedweek early after 4 runs.
Working out the bugs, and you’ll hear this 4cyl nitro lakester again

Speedweek 2025 recap:
With two new licensed drivers and our “wings” to finally get on the big course, we had a successful Speedweek despite it being cut short.

The car was cooking at the 2 1/4 mile at over 190mph, gaining 15mph from the 2 mile mark. It downshifted at 180mph, causing 1800* EGT and 93lbs of boost; 1400rwhp did some internal engine damage!

Thanks to the SCTA/BNI staff and volunteers for everything, including the 3 courses (which made multiple runs possible) and emergency crews for keeping all the teams safe.

As always, thank you to our crew members of family and friends. We couldn’t do this without you!

Another Speedweek come and gone for the Desotomaxx. We had a successful event with two new licensed drivers and earned our “wings “ to play with the big boys next year! Still chasing that transmission gremlin too! On a more somber note we wish all friends and family members of Chris Raschke our condolences.
