It happens all to often when a customer calls for a quote. I tell them the price for a windshield replacement and they respond with " I got a quote from another company for $100 less! Why are you so much higher?" Here are the reasons why. I never take short cuts or use a cheaper product so I can make an extra $5. This customer had another glass company replace her windshield a while back and she went with the "cheaper" quote. The previous company did not primer any of the scratches they made while removing the old windshield. Now this amount of rust isn't a big deal just yet but if left untreated, it can work its way under the glue that holds the windshield in the vehicle. This will cause water leaks, air leaks or worst. If the rust gets underneath the glue bed around enough surface area of the windshield, it could cause a catastrophic failure in the event of a roll over crash, allowing the windshield to pop out and potentially allow the roof of the vehicle to collapse. So when it comes to the safety of you and your family, it's not always the best idea to go with the cheapest. This damaged areas on this vehicle got ground down to bare metal, cleaned with a phosphoric acid wash, then cleaned with water and given two coats of primer to ensure that the rust will not come back. There's a time to save money when shopping around, but it should never be with you or your families safety.
