Volusia County sheriff's deputies were called out to Friendship Elementary School in Deltona, Florida last year after a fire alarm went off — and what they walked into left investigators putting the cost at no less than $50,000.
Unable to identify the two people caught on camera, the sheriff's office released body-camera footage and surveillance images and asked the public for help. Tips poured in, but the break came from an unexpected direction: the mothers of both suspects recognized their own sons and called law enforcement to turn them in. The boys, ages 12 and 13, were questioned and admitted their involvement, and investigators say they were at the school twice that day — once in daylight, and again after dark.
