A worthy question and definitely something to think about...

Are We Failing the Next Generation of Car People?

There are plenty of Gen Zers who are genuinely passionate about cars, both classic and modern, and about the car community that surrounds them. The oldest members of Gen Z are approaching 30, while the youngest are still teenagers.

If younger generations are becoming disconnected from the car community, we have to ask what we’ve done to invite them into it. How are they supposed to understand what this community is about if older generations don’t take the time to show them, teach them, welcome them, and give them opportunities to experience it for themselves?

There’s also a difference between respecting cars and having an interest in them. Interest often comes from exposure, while respect comes from proper education and understanding. You can have someone who owns a car but has absolutely no interest in it, just as you can have someone who is fascinated by cars but hasn’t yet learned how to properly respect or care for one. Both can be shaped by what previous generations choose to share with them.

We can’t expect the next generation to automatically care about the same things we do. We have to support their interests, encourage what they bring to the community, and meet them where they are. That means taking the time to understand what they enjoy before expecting them to understand what we enjoy.

So before we blame younger people for supposedly ā€œdisconnecting fromā€ the car community, we should ask ourselves a harder question: What have we actually done to make them want to be part of it? Have we welcomed them, taught them, listened to them, and given them opportunities to contribute, or have we simply told them that they don’t understand cars?

The future of the car community isn’t something we can demand from the next generation. It’s something we have to build with them. If we want them to carry the torch, we need to stop asking why they aren’t carrying it and start asking whether we’ve actually handed it to them.

There’s nothing quite like a good truck show.

On Saturday, September 19th, Fort Walla Walla Museum hosted the 34th Annual American Truck Historical Society's Blue Mountain Chapter Truck Show in Walla Walla, Washington.

From working trucks and farm rigs to military vehicles and beautifully preserved classics, there was plenty of American automotive history on display.

Events like this are a great reminder that these aren't just old trucks. They're pieces of history, each with a story of its own.

Here in one of the many trucks that caught our attention from this year's show.
