The absolute worst feeling after washing a bike is going to turn the key and realizing it’s completely stuck!

When you spray water around the handlebars and dash, it washes away the lubricant inside the keyhole. Without that slick barrier, the dry metal pins inside the ignition get jammed up, and lock the key in the ignition.

❌Most people panic and try to force-twist it—which snaps the key right off inside the ignition and turns a quick wash into a $300+ replacement!

✅How to prevent it ($0 trick):
Slap a small piece of painter’s tape directly over the key slot (or leave a spare key in the ignition) before you start foaming or rinsing. It keeps water out of the lock entirely.

If it’s already stuck:
1️⃣ DO NOT FORCE IT.
2️⃣ Blast the keyway out with compressed air to force out trapped water.
3️⃣ Spray a dry graphite l**e or dedicated lock spray into the slot (skip standard sticky WD-40).
4️⃣ Gently jiggle the key in and out until it frees up.
