Buying a vehicle without a title can leave you wondering, “Now what?” 😩

In Oklahoma, there are processes that may help you get the documentation needed to register your vehicle, including court-ordered title and Title 42 processes.

Tip of the Week: Court Order vs. Title 42 🚗📄

Knowing the difference between a Court Order and Title 42 is important. While both can help address title and vehicle ownership issues, they serve very different purposes.

🔹 Court Order
A court order is generally used when there is an agreement to transfer ownership, but the proper title or documentation is unavailable, or when a vehicle is being inherited.
Depending on the situation, documentation such as a proof of purchase, bill of sale, inheritance documents, or other supporting paperwork may be used when filing for a court order.

🔹 Title 42
Title 42 is generally used when a person or business has a vehicle in their possession and needs to claim an interest in that vehicle due to unpaid services, storage fees, parts and labor, or abandonment.
❗️If there is a balance owed for parts and labor, having a signed agreement with the individual is important❗️

💡 Tip of the Week: Beware of Title Jumping

At Falcon Title Services, we believe informed customers make better decisions.

Once a vehicle title has been signed between two private individuals, it cannot legally be signed over again to someone else. This practice is known as title jumping and can create significant delays and legal issues.

Remember: Only a licensed dealer may legally reassign a vehicle title to another buyer.

If a duplicate title cannot be obtained from the titled owner, a court-ordered title may be the next available option—and Falcon Title Services can help guide you through that process.

Know the rules before you buy—it can save you time, money, and unnecessary headaches.

Tip of the week:

Before purchasing a vehicle, we recommend,
- A VIN check beforehand to make sure there are no active liens.
-Run the VIN with local law enforcement to verify there are no active theft reports.
-ALWAYS get a signed bill of Sale/ proof of purchase!
-Also, scanning the vehicle to ensure that all VIN numbers match.

It's better to take these extra steps than potentially lose money on your investment 😃

The More You Know:🗣️

Life is full of unexpected Goodbyes, While many come at a sudden, Other's may have been expected. After your loved one's passing their belongings can be left without next of kin (Motor Vehicles specifically) and while leaving a Will or the assets in a Trust is the best option, those may not be available for everyone.

Service Oklahoma has Form 771: "Transfer On Death" available permiting a transfer of Ownership of a vehicle/vessel to help prevent these sort of issues following a death (with supporting documents)
