Grand Opening is today! Bet they don’t drink a beer per lap!

On November 12, 2025, the ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Tucson Velodrome will mark a milestone for both American and global track cycling. Built on the grounds of the Musselman Honda Circuit, this 250-meter, Olympic-sized track was designed by Canadian engineer Peter Junek, who’s been shaping velodromes for over 50 years.

Why aluminum? Because Arizona’s scorching summers can reach over 100°F (37°C), and aluminum can handle that heat far better than concrete making this a year-round training hub for cyclists of all levels.

The velodrome isn’t just for elite athletes. It will host youth programs, school events, and open rides for anyone who loves cycling in a safe, controlled, and professional environment.

Expect top-tier facilities too: lighting, restrooms, grandstands, and even an access tunnel beneath the track all built to make Tucson a new cycling hotspot.

Meanwhile, the Tucson Bicycle Classic is expanding in 2026 to four full days of racing (February 19–22), following the Valley of the Sun Stage Race just a week earlier.

With both races now sanctioned by USA Cycling, Arizona is fast becoming a spring racing capital for both pros and amateurs.

From aluminum tracks to desert crits, cycling in Arizona just got a serious upgrade. And this is only the beginning.

Sad to see a local stalwart depart the community, but a good opportunity to snag some quality outdoor gear!
Hope something local can fill the Summit Hut void!
Thank you to Summit Hut for their years of providing to Tucson & So AZ!

Dear Friends,
After 27 years for Dana—and 20 years for Jeremy—this is one of the hardest notes we’ve ever had to write: we’ve made the very difficult decision to permanently close Summit Hut.

This store has been our life’s work and our greatest joy, and the best part has always been sharing it with you—our customers, neighbors, and friends. We’ve weathered many challenges together over the years, always working hard to adapt, keep things going, and provide a place where people could find great gear, inspiration, and connection for their outdoor adventures.

But the past few years brought a combination of pressures too great to overcome. Rising costs, brands selling direct, new big-box competition, the push for lower prices, shifts toward online shopping, and a changing customer base all played a part. Summit Hut ended up in a tough spot—too big to run super lean, but too small to compete with national chains. We looked at every possible option, but in the end it just wasn’t sustainable.

Please know this decision was not made lightly. We really did try everything we could to keep things going, but in the end, closing is our only responsible choice—even though it breaks our hearts to say goodbye.

What we’ll remember most isn’t the challenges—it’s the community. The friendships made, the stories and trail tips shared, and the trust you gave us over the years mean the world to us. We’ll also deeply miss being part of the broader outdoor community—hosting and joining events, supporting local non-profits, and connecting with so many people beyond the store. Those are some of our best memories, and we’re grateful to have shared them with you.

On Friday, August 29th, we’ll begin a Going Out of Business Sale. Our entire store will be 30% off, including an additional 30% off already-reduced items. We hope you’ll stop by—not just for the deals, but to say goodbye, share stories, and be part of this final stretch with us.

Thank you for walking this trail with us. Your loyalty, kindness, and friendship over the years have meant more than we can ever say.

With gratitude,
Dana & Jeremy Davis
