Was lucky enough to find time for a visit to Canepa Collector Cars during Car Week — where in sleepy Scotts Valley, California just above Santa Cruz, you will find some of the most incredible Porsches and other collector road & race cars imaginable. It was a bucket list item for me to see the 2000 Carrera GT concept that debuted in Paris (1 of 2 cars produced, and 1 of 1 remaining apparently), which is incredibly different from the production car in person in all sorts of fascinating ways.

RM Sotheby's was just incredible this year, the champagne was flowing & the numbers were eye watering for anyone other than billionaire (or aspiring billionaire) buyers & highly-funded dealers looking to take on more inventory regardless of the record prices paid. We tried (and failed) to win the gorgeous Bianco Avus 458 Speciale for a client, but it wasn’t meant to be — luckily we’ve already secured him another example!

Next on the agenda was the BMW Alpina brunch party & USA launch event for the Vision BMW Alpina coupe, at the Hagerty house. BMW has recently acquired Alpina to help them fill the gap between the most expensive BMW models and the least expensive Rolls Royces. They did keep some little details on the new concept coupe from Alpina cars of old, such as the very subtle double pinstripes along the doors — but I’m not totally convinced that the brand will be as distinctive or interesting to enthusiasts after the BMW corporate takeover. I did try to convince the German BMW engineers to shove a V12 in the front of this car instead of the stated V8, and despite their poker faces I’m somewhat confident I convinced them to do it…

Next up was witnessing the start of the Tour d’Elegance bright & early within the gates of Pebble Beach. Given the number of classic cars involved, breakdowns are a given — we witnessed a few before the cars had even set off on their drive down the coast (route changed this year due to the Big Sur fires), but most issues seemed to be rectified in the moment. Seeing these cars in motion is always a bit more special than seeing them sitting on a concourse lawn, so this was one event we’ll need to attend every year from now on!

Finally getting around to posting some Car Week 2026 content, we’ll start off with Carmel-by-the-Sea where you never know what you’re going to see next. By day, the atmosphere is a mix of Pebble Beach worthy showcars and interesting collector cars you may find on BAT.
