Race Day Recap
8/23/26 Blackbird Quarter Midget Race Club

Heats
Ethan in Jr. Honda 2-3
Lucas in Sr. Animal 5-4

Features
Ethan 5-4 of 10 from 2 combined heats
Lucas 4-4

Ethan ran wide open with his smallest RPM drops ever!

Lucas bent his front axle in the middle of the heat but still moved up a spot. Crew chief changed the axle to only find out the backup axle was also bent on the RF. Did every trick possible like adding lead and adjusting tie rods to get as much left turn as possible. Went out for the feature and still did well!

Stayed and did some practice with friends after. Lucas and Charlie tried to catch Carter in a WF with their Animals. Ethan had fun running good lines with Carsten.

And, Lucas got to do a little announcing😎

Race week 2026 finished with 4 races at 4 different tracks in 6 days! Race 3 was at South Jersey. Both boys started 6th in the 8 lap heats, then after the short 12 lap week night features they both had moved up to 3rd for podium medals! Pocono was fun night, features only. Drivers and handlers competed in water balloon and egg toss to determine their starting position in the features. Ethan and Lucas both ran well but spun out off turn 3. Tricky track when you only go there once a year but it is a blast. Here’s some picks from those last 2 races. And Ethan lost a tooth while strapped in his car before the heat race at South Jersey 🤪

First time racing in the NASCAR Youth Series National Races! Lucas and Ethan both did great. They had good passes and finishes in their heat races. Good enough to go straight to the B-mains in all 3 cars! This means they got to skip F, E, D, and C lower mains! They ran all three cars to their fastest laps ever at Blackbird Quarter Midget Race Club.

Didn’t make it to the A-Mains on Sunday but still having fun cheering for their friends that did: Charlie Wilt Racing, Fank Family Racing, Trevor’s Fast Life!

Special shout out to new partner/sponsor Avondale Auto Service LLC! This winter and spring they were able to fix some of our bent front axles!

This shop knows how to work on vehicles, old and new. They are not afraid to get their hands dirty and do the actual work. Check them out for inspections, repairs, custom exhausts and more.

One of the axles they bent back was in Ethan’s white car when he won Motorama Quarter Midget Indoor Race this winter!

Baseball is winding down for us and the boys will be back to regularly racing.

Saw something similar to this today and just had to share with yall.

“You see a kid in a race car and think…
“How cute.”
“A fun little hobby.”
“Something to pass the time.”

You see a dad working on the kart in the pits and think…
“Just tinkering.”
“Just racing.”

You see a mom in the stands, filming, cheering, packing snacks and think…
“Just watching.”

But what you don’t see is everything behind it.

You don’t see the late nights in the garage
when everyone else is inside… and they’re still chasing one more adjustment.

You don’t see the money quietly shuffled around
to make sure tires get replaced, parts get ordered, entry fees get paid.

You don’t see the long drives home
where the car is quiet…
because not every race ends the way they hoped.

You don’t see the kid replaying every lap in their head
wondering what they could’ve done better.

Or the parents choosing their words carefully…
because they’re building a driver,
but more importantly, they’re raising a person.

Because kids in racing?
It’s not just laps around a track.

It’s discipline.
It’s heartbreak.
It’s learning how to lose
without losing yourself.

It’s learning how to win
without forgetting who helped you get there.

It’s family dinners eaten out of coolers.
It’s sunburns and sweatshirts in the same day.
It’s a life lived between trailers, tools, and checkered flags.

And those kids?
They’re not just driving.

They’re learning how to handle pressure.
How to stay focused when everything in you wants to panic.
How to get back out there… even after a bad run.

So no… it’s not “just a hobby.”

It’s early mornings.
It’s sacrifices.
It’s everything we don’t post about.

It’s a family sport in every sense of the word.

Because behind every kid on that track…
is a whole crew
who gave up a lot
just to watch them chase it.

And if you’ve ever sat in those stands,
heart racing with them every lap…

you already know

this life isn’t simple.
But we’d choose it
every single time. 🏁”

We now have our own Blackbird Quarter Midget Race Club in our front yard. Check out Ethan’s lines and corner work. Getting good practice for quarter midgets in a terrible handling go-kart.
