Everyone asks about lift kits and bumpers first.

And don’t get me wrong, I like a cool build as much as anyone.

But if the goal is to actually off-road your Raptor or show up ready for a Raptor Run, these are the 5 mods I’d spend money on first.

Not the flashiest mods.

Just the ones that actually make the truck more capable, safer, or easier to use when things get real.

What did I forget, and what should I have left off?



D LOAD RATED TIRES

The stock KO2s are solid all-around tires, especially for a truck that still has to daily drive well.

But in my experience, once you start pushing these trucks harder off-road, the C load sidewall can become a limiting factor.

I’ve had better luck stepping up to a D load rated tire for added sidewall support, durability, and peace of mind when pushing the truck.

You don’t need to jump straight into a super heavy mud terrain, but if you actually plan to wheel your Raptor, this is one of the first upgrades I’d make.

BUMP STOPS

Out of every mod I’ve done, rear hydraulic bump stops changed the truck’s performance the most.

They nearly eliminate that nasty rear-end bucking the stock truck gets when you start pushing it hard.

The best part is they don’t ruin the daily drivability.

If you want to spend money on something that actually improves performance, this is where I’d start.

BED MOUNTED SPARE

Flat tires on the trail are common, and they almost never happen in a convenient spot.

Having a secure, easy-to-access spare in the bed can keep a simple fix from turning into a hike or a ride into town.

It’s not the sexiest mod, but when you need it, you really need it.

CHASE LIGHTS

Trails get dusty fast, especially during Raptor Runs.

Proper spacing helps, but when visibility gets bad, bright amber chase lights make it way easier for the truck behind you to keep track of where you are.

There are temporary lighting options that work, but if you’re looking for something to hard mount, chase lights are a great place to spend money.

HARD MOUNTED RADIO

Vehicle-to-vehicle comms matter when you’re running with a group.

Handheld radios can work fine, but once you start

We don’t always get to decide where we start.

But we do get a say in where we’re going.

That’s something I believe in pretty deeply, especially while chasing my own dreams and trying to build something real in this community.

And that’s why meeting Dean hit a little different.

There are people you meet in this community who don’t have to explain what they’re chasing. You can see it in how they move, how they talk about the future, and the work they’re willing to put in when nobody is watching.

Dean is one of those people.

He runs DCBL Media and is traveling the country building his own media company one mile, one trail, and one shot at a time.

He’s already built an impressive resume shooting events like Texas Raptor Runs, and even had the opportunity to shoot the legendary Pikes Peak Hill Climb.

But what stood out to me most wasn’t just the talent.

It was the heart behind it.

The willingness to bet on yourself, chase the story, and turn the thing you love into something real.

That’s the kind of person this community is built on.

A great dude, an insanely talented creator, and someone I’m genuinely excited to see keep winning.

I know the video is a little bit of a joke, but I genuinely don’t think there’s been a greater automotive creator in our generation.

Cleetus took the internet and built something real from it. Something bigger than just being a guy on camera.

When I started making content, I never wanted to just be another dude selling affiliate codes. I wanted to race, have fun with great people, and hopefully build something real too.

He’s proof that this can become so much more than content.

A lot of people want to off-road their Raptors but don’t know where to start.

The internet would have you think you need $20K in mods before hitting the trails, but that’s not really true.

I love modifying my truck as much as anyone, but if the goal is to get outside, have fun, and meet some rad people, these are six things I’d snag first.

STARLINK

After getting stranded outside Moab at midnight, I’ll never hit a remote trail without one again.

RECOVERY GEAR

Eventually, you’re gonna get stuck. Plan for how you’re getting out, whether you’re with friends or riding alone.

AIR SYSTEM

I neglected this for way too long. Proper trail pressure makes a massive difference, but you need a reliable way to air back up.

OFF-ROAD JACK

The OEM jack is nearly useless on uneven terrain. A simple trail repair shouldn’t become an avoidable nightmare.

VEHICLE-TO-VEHICLE COMMS

If you’re joining a Raptor run or riding with friends, radios are huge for safety and keeping the group connected.

TOOLS AND SPARE PARTS

Start with what you need to swap a tire, then build from experience. I carry enough to replace a tie rod, but that’s because I have a history of breaking them. 😅
