Monoposto Racing

Monoposto Racing Our mission is to preserve, restore and campaign vintage single seat, open wheel racing cars. are specifically forbidden.

The philosophy of Monoposto Racing is fairly simple and involves a few basics.
1. Single-seater car owners are expected to participate in Monoposto Racing to enjoy the fellowship and competition with their Monoposto Racing peers.
2. The cars competing in Monoposto events will be restored to the authentic, original condition as defined by the following rules and presented at each event in pristine

condition.
3. Specific safety upgrades, such as dual braking systems and onboard fire systems are recommended and strongly endorsed; however, performance upgrades such as oversize engines, bigger tires, etc. Please read the rules carefully and abide by them. We do not want the embarrassment of having to deal with any Monoposto member with an illegal vehicle. Also remember when reading the rules to assume that if it is not specifically spelled out in the rules, it is not allowed. If you have any questions, please contact the representative for your particular vehicle class

The Hoosier Hero program recognizes people in the racing community who represent the passion, dedication and spirit that make our sport so special.

And if you know Dave, you know racing has been a huge part of his life for nearly five decades.

He has spent those years working hard at racetracks across the country, helping racers, supporting events, selling and servicing race tires, preparing and restoring race cars, and being part of a racing community that truly is family.

And Dave doesn’t just work at the racetrack — he races competitively too.

He regularly gets behind the wheel of either his Brabham BT29 and Formula Ford.

Driving the Brabham in 2010, Dave won the Monoposto Formula B Championship for the third year in a row, along with the SVRA Group 2 Sprint Championship and HMP’s Monoposto Classic Championship.

Then in 2014, he added another major accomplishment, winning the SVRA U.S. Vintage Racing National Championship in Group 2 driving the Brabham as well.

Of course, many of you know Dave for another reason, too.

Whether he is helping someone in the paddock, racing at the front of the pack, building something for a foster animal or quietly doing whatever needs to be done, Dave has spent decades showing up for the communities he loves.

NOW WE NEED YOUR HELP!

🏁 PLEASE VOTE FOR DAVE HANDY!

⭐ ONE VOTE PER EMAIL ADDRESS ⭐

If you’ve raced with Dave, worked with him, bought tires from him, shared a paddock space with him, watched him help somebody at the track, grown up with him, or followed his adventures as cat and dog rescuer extraordinaire, please take a minute and cast your vote.

And PLEASE SHARE! The more people we can reach, the better!

🏁 DAVE HANDY
🏆 2027 HOOSIER HERO

“You could throw a “hand towel” over the first 3 cars they were so close”. - Sportscar Racing announcer. - Jeff Wright. What a race in the Grand Prix Classics group with HSR.
024 seconds separated first and second place and .03 between 2nd and 3rd. Congrats to winner Travis Engen, 2nd place Dave Handy and 3rd place Marc Giroux.

A message from Monoposto Racing president Travis Engen. **PARTY INFO INCLUDED BELOW TOO!***
This weekend brings the 2025 Mission Foods Watkins Glen International SpeedTour. This event has been on the SVRA schedule for decades and features activities like the race car tour of the original road course through town in a Grand Prix Reenactment as well as the possibility of race cars going from the track to a throwback tech inspection at Smalley’s Garage.

The event also is a pure vintage/historic weekend with none of the various pro or developmental series that ate up track time and forced the combination of disparate classes into fewer run groups last year. One can only hope that under new ownership there are more SVRA vintage/historic only events next year and beyond.

Watkins Glen is known for signature features like the Esses, the “Bus Stop”, the carousel, and all the “boot” section (the laces, the toe, the heel and the flat turn 9 that returns to the short course.) It’s truly a fun track to drive with lots of elevation and camber changes and a number of good passing opportunities.

With the racing and all the off-track activities: Smalley’s Garage, the GP Reenactment, autograph sessions and the SVRA dinner, Monoposto will still have a party. The hosts once again are Marc and Cindy Giroux and Mark and Stacy Clark. The party will begin at 4:30 on Saturday, just before the SVRA dinner. 2024 Monoposto trophies for will also be available for presentation at the party. The party will be in a stand-alone tent adjacent to the usual GMT paddock area directly east of SVRA tech in the North Paddock near the Media Center.

Following the successes of 2024, the schedule for the year ahead is modeled on the 2024 plan with the addition of a return to Barber Motorsports Park in October. The details are on www.Monoposto.com and below. Since two of the events are on the same weekend, competitors in all classes except Indy Lights have 9 events to choose from and Lights drivers have 8. Remember that it’s your ten best race results (typically 5 events) that are scored and you need to participate in 3 events to make the minimum for a championship and a trophy.

The first event is just over two months away so if you haven’t prepped your car it’s time to get started. I wish everyone the best in 2025 and look forward to seeing you at the track.
