My Pitts instructor, Tom, and I watching the Lions game. This is his 100th Thanksgiving!
On the wall to the right is a print from my Inverted Ribbon Cut at Sun n Fun a few years ago, dedicated to my buddy, Kevin Bachands wedding….. The other pic is Tom in the S2A that he taught me in. N53078…It hangs over the dining room table. I made dinner for him and his son David Bent.
I’m thankful for getting connected with Tom many years ago. If I hadn’t met him, I would have never have been an airshow pilot , or flying for a living now…….also , I bought the S1 project that became the Chefpitts Biplane from him…..and this house is on Waldo Pepper drive…….
Can’t make this stuff up…..be thankful for what you have folks !
See you on the Flightline! 😎

Somewhere over Africa…….😎
….Some bits on the Halo phenomenon…
-Known as Glory or Pilots Glory….haha
-Also known as Ulloa’s Halo first seen by sailors and mountaineers in the 1700’s
- “It is gratifying to discover in the elegant but seemingly abstract theory of complex angular momentum an explanation for these two natural phenomena [Glories and 10th order Rainbows], and to find there an unexpected link between them”……………H.M Nussenzveig ( fair enough, we were in a descent😎)
-And of course, the Chinese were first ……
“In China, the phenomenon is called Buddha’s light (or halo). It is often observed on cloud-shrouded high mountains, such as Huangshan and Mount Emei. Records of the phenomenon at Mount Emei date back to A.D. 63. The colourful halo always surrounds the observer’s own shadow, and thus was often taken to show the observer’s personal enlightenment (associated with Buddha or divinity).” Further reading……re: 10th Order Rainbows
See Nussenzveig above….
A “10th order rainbow” refers to a very high-order rainbow with the color violet on the outside and a radius of 17.8 degrees, but these are extremely rare, faint, and generally invisible to the human eye. Unlike the primary and secondary rainbows we commonly see, higher-order rainbows result from more internal reflections of sunlight within a water droplet, causing them to be very dim and located near the antisolar point

re:Military Parade
One of the most profound, yet unknown differences between us and other countries is that we have Air Shows.
A s**t ton of them. More than anyone. They start around April and go through September, with a few in November, even December if you’re down south.
Most weekends through the summer, there are more than one, covering various regions across the country.
A TON of them are on MILITARY BASES!! They work for TWO YEARS to be able to host ya’all! ….with all kinds of Military Gear on Display. The main public draw for ALL of these shows is a Military presence, whether it’s the top Display teams or even at the smaller shows, a static helicopter or Military trainer from the local Air Force or Navy base…..meaning those fine folks are there to interact with the public. (I know , I talk to them at the bar after ! 😎)
I encourage you to search out the show (s) near you and attend. Talk to the military folks, get an autograph, a selfie, and enjoy the day.
Why should you go to an Airshow?
1/ I’ve flown Air Shows for 10 + years and still am amazed how many folks in the town where I am don’t know there’s a show going on. They NEED YOU !!!
2/ The Military is not about one dude that needs a birthday present. Those who SERVE and SACRIFICE are what truly makes this country great….and you can literally talk to these folks..trust me, they’re camped at their aircraft all day waiting for your questions and appreciation, and as you would imagine , they are super cool! 😎
3/ Airshows also showcase exceptional humans who have dedicated a lifetime to be the best they can be at their craft. You can meet THEM TOO!
4/ Get outside, get some sun, and get out of your echo chamber.
5/ Watching a flyover on TV/computer/phone is dogs**t compared to being at a real Airshow and meeting exceptional humans.
That is all.
See you on the Flightline ! 😎
