What do I listen to while I’m working?

I’m glad you asked.

Most days, it’s Bott Radio Network playing in the background while I turn wrenches. But over the last week or so, I’ve been digging into some free audiobooks.

Right now, I’m listening to The Jesus I Never Knew by Philip Yancey—for the second time.

I wanted to share that because I have a feeling somebody out there may need the same reminder I didn’t even realize I needed.

Sometimes I get so focused on the holiness of Christ that I lose sight of the fact that Jesus also lived a real human life.

He experienced joy. He loved people. He felt compassion.

But He also experienced rejection, disappointment, sadness, loneliness, and profound grief.

Sometimes I get stuck inside my own head and convince myself that nobody else feels the way I do. That nobody understands how quickly a perfectly good day can turn heavy, sad, or overwhelming—sometimes without any obvious reason at all.

Then I’m reminded that we serve a Savior who doesn’t look at human suffering from a distance.

He stepped into it.

He lived among us.

He wept.

He hurt.

He loved.

And He understands.

And whether I’m changing a set of brakes, building an estimate for a failed CP4 fuel system, scrubbing toilets, or trying to get coffee stains out of the carpet at church, time seems to fly by when I’m listening to and trying to learn more about my Savior.

There’s something about working with my hands while feeding my mind and heart with the things of Christ that makes even the longest jobs feel a little different.

This book has been an incredible listen for me. When it ended the first time, I immediately started it over because I knew there were things I missed.

So if you see me under a hood, cleaning up at the church, or somewhere in between with my headphones in, there’s a pretty good chance I’m listening to a sermon, an audiobook, or something else that helps me know Jesus a little better than I did yesterday.

And maybe somebody reading this needed that reminder today too:

Our Savior knows what it is to be human. And whatever kind of day you’re having, you’re not bringing something to Him that He cannot understand.

🔧 A Friendly Reminder About Our Business Hours

I want to take a moment to remind everyone that my official business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM.

Most services are by appointment only, much like a traditional brick-and-mortar repair shop. I always do my best to work people into the schedule when I can, but calls, texts, and messages received after 5:00 PM may not be returned until the following business day.

I also want to clarify what “mobile mechanic” means. Mobile means I bring the repair shop to you, whether that's your home, workplace, or another convenient location. It does not mean 24/7 emergency roadside service, towing, or around-the-clock availability.

For roughly 12 years, I worked in positions where being available at all hours was simply part of the job—from 24/7 semi-truck roadside recovery to shop supervision and automotive repair. I’m incredibly grateful for everything those years taught me, but they also taught me the importance of protecting time with my family.

As I continue building this business, I want to do it in a way that honors the Lord, serves my community well, and allows me to be present for my family.

I truly love what I do, and I’m incredibly thankful for every person who trusts me with their vehicle. I will continue doing my absolute best to accommodate everyone I can during my available hours. At the same time, I have made the decision that serving my community cannot consistently come at the expense of being a husband and father at home.

There may certainly be times when a job runs past 5:00 PM or circumstances require some flexibility—that's part of automotive repair. But as a general rule, after-hours time will be family time.

Thank you for understanding, respecting these boundaries, and continuing to support a small, family-run business. It truly means more than you know.

If your rotors look like they could lay down a funky beat on a turntable, it’s time to replace ’em.

Pretty sure if you played these backwards, you’d get a hidden message telling you to change your brakes 🤣🤣

This 2016 Yukon got the Brake Best Select Pro Rotors and Pads. Now its not screaming for help at every stop.

Ive been searching high and low for a very special one of a kind part for this old 1980 F-Treefiddy for the better part of 5 hours. . . Imagine the look on my face when I found out its still very much a rare part, but its ONLY listed to fit a 1985 Jeep Cherokee with the 2.5l engine. . .

If it exists, Ill find it. If I cant find it, it no longer exists. And if it no longer exists, Ill commission a machinist to make it if I have to.
