Our team got the opportunity to lift this 24,000-pound caboose the other day! The customer transported this caboose from Connecticut to Virginia so they could build their new home around it. This job was tricky as we had never done this type of lift before but we got it done!

Bo and Drew did an excellent job as usual. They even got a helping hand on spinning the boom from two kids, Brandon (13) and Jared (10). Great work RR team!

Today is a hard day for many as we are honoring and remembering those who have fallen while serving in the United States Armed Forces. We specifically want to honor Steven Walter Szwydek, brother to our heavy-duty driver Corey Szwydek.

Steven enlisted in the Marine Corps in 11th grade and left for bootcamp shortly after his high school graduation. He served for two tours in Iraq, working on a Combined Anti-Armor Team (CAAT). During his second tour, he and two other gentlemen were killed during an I.E.D. attack on October 20th, 2005. He was only 20 years old. Corey says β€œWhen people say they die doing what they love, that’s what he did. That is what he would have wanted.” We are so appreciative of Steven’s service and for Corey sharing his brother’s story.

Some recoveries just don’t go as planned. Even after unloading the trailer, it still came apart due to the weight of shredded copper in it. Driver is ok. πŸ™.
Huge thanks to VDOT, VA State Police and Dulles Greenway personnel for support and traffic control. Keeping us safe when our backs are turned or just not seeing something coming at you.
Not sure photos give this recovery justice. Was a steep embankment with guardrail, many trees and shrubs, bees nest. Had 40,000 lbs of misc copper in the trailer. We drug it up the hill, unloaded what we could and up righted it.
Lots of personal and equipment.
Also 3 Certified Wreckmaster 8/9/R persons at this job.
A huge thank you to Potomac Metals for their staff helping recover the load. It was not their truck but the load had just left their yard.

We are a Family Business

Road Runner Wrecker Service, Inc. (RRWS) was started by David Butcher in 1992. Already a seasoned tow truck driver, David decided he wanted to be in business for himself. He did just that and grew the business from one truck to one of the largest in the Mid-Atlantic region. Today, Road Runner Wrecker Service consists of multiple facilities to include Purcellville, Sterling, and a state-of-the-art Leesburg location currently under construction, expected to open in the Spring of 2020. Keeping the business within his family, his wife Lisa Butcher works by his side as the Business Manager, controlling anything from day to day business activities including oversight of accounting, administrative duties, sales and operations, among many other things. David’s eldest son, Daniel, a graduate from George Mason University, shares his father’s passion for incident management and public safety. David’s eldest daughter, Hannah, currently attends Virginia Tech with a major in Business Management and Entrepreneurship and works under her father as an intern, learning the aspects of business, including extensive experience in the dispatch center. Second daughter, Bailey, a current student at York College, is working towards completing her degree in Psychology and working in the dispatch center during her breaks from school. Second son, Dalton, as a young teenager, helps out around the facility, learning the ways of towing from a hands on perspective. And finally, Hayley, the youngest daughter, looks forward to the day she can continue the tradition of working in the family business.
