Loudoun County Sheriff's Office

June is #SlowDownMoveOver Awareness Month. Most people don’t realize the law includes tow trucks. This week, another tow truck operator was killed in California as a result of someone not paying attention and not following the move over law. This is the 28th tow truck operator killed in the US this year alone.

Pay attention.
Put your phone down - it can wait.
SLOW DOWN AND MOVE OVER!

Help us make #Loudoun County 100% aware of the Move Over, Slow Down law!

Did you know Virginia law requires drivers to #MoveOver or #SlowDown when approaching a stationary vehicle that is displaying a flashing, blinking, or alternating blue, red, or amber light or lights?

Move-Over/Slow Down law, Section § 46.2-921.1 of the Code of Virginia requires drivers to move over one lane, if possible, whenever approaching a stationary vehicle that is displaying a flashing, blinking, or alternating blue, red, or amber light or lights. And, if traffic is too congested to move over safely, the law requires drivers to simply slow down, below the posted speed limit and be prepared to stop.

Starting July 1, the law will now be a Class 1 misdemeanor on your first offense. By not following the law, you face possible jail time and a $2,500 fine.

Steven Walter Szwydek, brother to our driver Corey Szwydek, who served in the Marine Corps for two tours in Iraq working on a Combined Anti-Armor Team (CAAT). Steven joined the Marine Corps in 11th grade, and left for boot camp one month after his high school graduation. During his second tour, he and three other gentleman were killed during an I.E.D. attack on October 20th, 2005. He was 20 years old. Corey said “When people say they die doing what they love, that’s what he did. That is what he would have wanted”. Today we remember those who have given the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

We don’t usually post GFM’s, but this is one of our wonderful employees. He is selfless and has a huge heart. He does not complain. And has continued to work for Road Runner since being diagnosed with Stage 4 Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Those who are close to Dave and I know how much cancer has affected our family personally. This is something that is important to us. Please keep him in your prayers for healing and strength. You can beat this Brad!!! Team Road Runner is behind you!! #fcancer

Some NC photos. We are traveling 100-150 Miles one way to get cars and that does not include all the detours and road closures that make it a maze to get from one point to another. As of today water levels are still high. Rt 95 closed in many places. God bless all the people struggling here.
