LCSO Investigating Robbery and Attempted Robbery at Two Dulles South Area Pharmacies

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the identity of a suspect involved in an attempted robbery and robbery at two pharmacies in the Dulles South area.

Around 7 p.m. on October 23, LCSO Deputies responded to the Giant Foods located on Riding Plaza in Chantilly. During the incident, a male suspect armed with a box cutter jumped the pharmacy counter and demanded prescription medications. The suspect grabbed the items from the pharmacist and fled the store.

As deputies were on scene at the Giant, it was learned the suspect previously attempted to commit a robbery at the CVS Pharmacy on Pinebrook Road in Chantilly. The suspect left that store empty-handed. That incident occurred around 6:45 p.m. but was not immediately reported.

The suspect in both cases is described as a white male, 35 to 40-years-old, with a light colored goatee. He was wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt, brown khaki style pants, tan colored shoes, and dark colored gloves at the time of the incidents.

Detectives are asking for the public's assistance to help identify the suspect. If you have any information regarding his possible identity, you are asked to contact Detective C. Pickrell at 703-777-1021. You may also submit a tip through the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office app. The Loudoun Sheriff app is available on the iTunes App Store and Google Play.

Once again it is rutting season for deer and they are highly active. Remember, they don't follow the rules and cross roads in the crosswalks. Here are a few tips to remember when driving.

* Always wear a seat belt.
* Be extra attentive while driving during dusk and dawn.
*If you see one deer, anticipate there are more.
* Use your high beams when there is no oncoming traffic to help illuminate their eyes.
* Use your horn if needed.
*Never swerve to avoid hitting a deer.
*If its inevitable you are going to hit a deer, STAY in your lane, brake FIRMLY and AVOID hitting the brake DURING impact.

Slow down and stay safe!

National Hurricane Center: there is an increasing risk of life-threatening impacts from Florence, storm surge at the coast and freshwater flooding inland from prolonged & exceptionally heavy rainfall. ALL Virginians should take time to prepare their family, home and workplace.

For preparedness information and resources for floods and hurricanes please review: VAemergency.gov/floods and VAemergency.gov/hurricanes. Coastal Virginians should learn their evacuation zone and review the Hurricane Evacuation Guide at KnowYourZoneVA.org.

Just so you know...
August 15 to September 3 is the national enforcement mobilization of Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over, a campaign across the country in which state and local law officials are cracking down on drunk driving. According to the CDC, over 10,000 Americans die each year from drunk driving-related accidents. That translates to 29 people per day, and one death every 50 minutes. While Labor Day and the end of summer is certainly a time for fun—make it safe, responsible fun, for you and your family. More data on drinking and driving, plus other driving safety tips, can be found at DriversEd.com.

LCSO Partners with GotSneakers & MADD Loudoun to Collect Sneakers
http://bit.ly/2CbHhgG

In the spirit of environmental and economic sustainability, the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) has partnered with GotSneakers to help raise funds for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) of Loudoun. The request is simple: Clean out your closets of all unwanted adult and children’s paired sneakers and other footwear and bring them tied together before March 31, 2018 to one of the LCSO stations.

MADD Loudoun was founded in 1990 and it is run by volunteers that will use the funds raised to finance to end drunk driving, help fight drugged driving, support the victims of these violent crimes and prevent underage drinking. Throughout each year MADD Loudoun hosts Parent Workshops, participates in Sobriety Checkpoints, and attends DUI/DUID court cases trials to end drunk driving.

GotSneakers is a sneaker recycling organization and social fundraising platform, which will compensate MADD Loudoun for every pair of useable sneakers collected, regardless of the condition.

The LCSO will accept all styles and conditions of footwear. After the sneakers are collected, GotSneakers will process and distribute these sneakers around the world specifically within impoverished nations using micro-enterprise partners helping those in need. The sneakers that are damaged are processed and ground into surfaces for playgrounds, gym floors, tracks, outdoor courts, and synthetic turfs.

Last year, the community joined with businesses, gym members, thrift shops, scouts, customers, and families in collecting over 2,000 pairs of sneakers. There is no limit to the amount of money we can raise.

Good advice.

Drinking coffee or energy drinks alone is not always enough to combat drowsy driving. Please pull off the road and get some rest if you exhibit any of the following warning signs:

Yawning or blinking frequently.

Difficulty remembering the past few miles driven.

Missing your exit.

Drifting from your lane.

Hitting a rumble strip on the side of the road.

If you are driving drowsy, you are not only a danger to yourself but to every every other vehicle on the road. #ArriveAlive
