New car announcement!!!
Everyone say hello to ‘61 Chevrolet Corvair! This one happens to be a Monza 900 with a neat history I’m still piecing together. I landed it for $800 on marketplace - it’s yet to prove whether that’s a good deal or not… but this info is a few days old now as I’ve been busy wrenching on it rather than posting to socials about it.

Why a Corvair?
It’s unlike anything I’ve ever owned or ever worked on. An air cooled flat 6 with two carbs and a 4 speed. What’s not to like? It’s got potential! But it will certainly take some time and effort to meet its useable potential..

My goal? Budget rallycross car for fun so I can slide around at the local SCCA Rallycross days! And just to learn some new stuff.

More info to come! I’ve done lots of wrenching since I bought it on August 28th ‘26 so make sure you follow my page to bless your eye balls (and ear holes - hint hint!) with its greatness.

Note: all drug looking things I found in the car under the front seats. It was all properly disposed of per local police guidance 😅

I also took off today and Tuesday from work. Don’t go back to my boring desk until Wednesday morning! Hopefully I’ll get some wrenches turned despite the heat!!

There’s a ton of hours of work in this little snapshot. What a fun project.

Breaking stuff is really just a great excuse to upgrade along the way!

After the jump I busted both my factory front upper shock mounts. I’ve got some awesome friends with even cooler tools at their disposal so I used a JD Bender to put a V shape bend in some 0.095” wall DOM tube (bought from a rad rally friend) along with barnes.4wd DIY shock mount goodies to make some Bilsteins (from another awesome friend at a good price) work on the wag!

I went from a short stock ‘00 Silverado rear shock to this massive travel shock. Way more down travel! It’ll be rad!

My only oopsy was I’m pretty sure my sway bar links will hit the forward mounting point of the upper shock mount… dangit… fix for now will be to drive without a front sway bar. Long term I’ll probably do a junkyard trip to see if I can find a bar that’s similar, but slightly wider to clear the mounts I added.

Getting my original ‘88 Jeep Grand Wagoneer a little churched up with newly drilled and tapped holes for the hubcaps. New stainless hardware will be soon to follow!

#29 drill yields the 75% engagement for a 8-32 tap that works out well for these cast aluminum wheels.

Happy Cinco De Mayo and late Earth Day from Perfect Enough Garage! To celebrate Earth Day I joined the MO Gambler 500 community’s event called The Fambler! It’s our family friendly version of the Gambler 500 where we do shorter, easier routes and focus more on enjoying the scenes and picking up as much litter as we can!

I also made some new friends over at TrailBuilt Off-Road so expect to hear some more on that! In the meantime be sure to checkout their goodies 😉 they loved the Wagoneer an the MO Gambler spirit.
