PTM Race report
We may have been quiet lately but a lot has happened behind the scenes. Factory Driver Alex Fanning moved down in April and him along with Jack Kloeber began running in the dirt oval scene. Fanning backed with years of experience in oval and Kloeber with extensive experience racing rc cars spanning 5 decades has made for a great combination. Both drivers have been running PTM tuned Motiv MC5 5.0 motors and Motiv 6400 batteries in their Customworks cars. The goal this year has been focused on the largest dirt oval race in the country, the 2026 RC Chili bowl.
Fanning started where he left off in Illinois with fast cars right from the start, winning the first race at Hobby action using the PTM 5.0, during this time Jacks car was being built.
After this the two went on to finish 1-2 in multiple club races at both Hobby action and M&M mile.
The first real test came at Rainmains Hobby in Bakersfield California for the West coast Dirt Oval Nationals, with over 300 entries this has been the largest West coast dirt oval race this year.
Both Jack and Alex started off slow, learning the unique surface and how to prepare tires. This process put them behind coming into round 1 qualifying. A Hail Mary before the round stuck and both were able to finish well in the respective heats. Round 2 this progress continued. In round 3 Jack had the fastest car of the week, but a broken part on track cut his RR tire and made the car near impossible to drive, setting him back in lower mains. Alex was able to secure a mid pack start in the A Main.
On the last day Jack was up first, after bumping several mains lap cars became a factor and kept him just shy of the A.
Alex started P6 in the A, after getting caught up in a wreck early he was able to fight his way up to 3rd overall.
The next big race was the Wild West Shootout at Hobby Action, another staple of West coast oval racing.
Jack and Alex started this race out much stronger. After single car qualifying Alex was able to take top seed in Latemodel and P2 in sprint.
Qualifiers went well with Alex qualifying P1 in sprint and P4 in latemodel, Jack also made the main in Sprint starting P8.
The Latemodel main went well, with Alex finishing P2 after a 4th place start, leading most of the race.
The sprint main was less fortunate with Alex breaking out from contact with a lap car, Jack finished p6 with a fast car after getting stuck in the infield for 2 laps.
An Honorable mention is Aiden Johnson finishing P2 in 360 sprint with his PTM tuned 13.5 Bullet
The last trophy race leading up to chili bowl is the Fiesta bowl at M&M Mile.
This event had PTM drivers Aiden Johnson, Alex Fanning and Jack Kloeber in attendance.
Everybody started off strong with Alex sitting P1 in both latemodel and sprint after seeding and Jack sitting P3 in sprint.
Qualifying went decent with Alex sitting P1 in both classes, After hard luck in a heat Jack started in the B main but bumped easily into the A in sprint. Aiden was a direct transfer as well.
In the main Alex took P1, Aiden P2 and Jack P3 after coming from the B. Alex took P1 in latemodel and set a new track record for fast lap.
PTM is now in full swing RC Chili Bowl prep, testing chassis setup, tires and different tire preps.
PTM is also endorsing and using Better Image Labs tire prep after trying their prototype line. Better Image labs is a nationwide supplier of lab tools, Chemicals and precision equipment, and now formulating tire prep for the RC world.
