This is the update on the Mack truck that was brought in last week with over 20 fault codes.

Due to the complexity of a vehicle arriving with this many issues, our process involves addressing the most crucial upstream problems first to ensure an accurate diagnosis. We have identified and addressed several key issues within the low-pressure fuel system and the intake system:

- Fuel System: Troubleshooting revealed failed check valves and a faulty low-pressure fuel pump. To resolve this, we replaced the low-pressure fuel pump, the fuel filter housing (as the ball valves are not individually serviceable), and the fuel system quantity control valve.
- Charge Air Cooler (CAC): Regarding the report of a surge at full throttle, we conducted a pressure test and discovered a small leak. We have replaced the CAC with a new unit.

The remaining fault codes are aftertreatment-related. Specifically, the code for aftertreatment fuel pressure likely coincided with the low-pressure fuel system issues we have already repaired. As we were unable to recreate these specific issues during a standard regeneration process, we request that the driver now take the unit and operate it under normal driving conditions.

 We are currently gauging interest within the off-highway industry regarding mobile service options. While we have typically focused on maintaining our own equipment and taking on smaller external jobs—such as recent AC work on a JCB unit and track replacements—we are considering investing in diagnostic software to expand our capabilities.

We would appreciate your feedback on whether there is a significant demand for mobile service versus traditional dealership-level service. We understand that warranty-related issues and certain specialized procedures must remain with the OEM. However, we are looking into providing mobile support for basic procedures, troubleshooting, and regenerations.

We have completed the repairs on this vehicle. Although we were initially contacted regarding a hard start, our inspection identified several oil leaks.

Following their approval of the estimate, we have successfully addressed all of the identified leaks. We have also enjoyed seeing many planes flying overhead this morning in preparation for the upcoming air show this weekend.

This was a previously diagnosed Truck from us resulting in an intake NOX sensor having failed.

We responded out to the customer the following day with the correct parts and removed in replace the intake NOX sensor.

After the repair we were able to connect or diagnostic laptop and proceed with an SCR efficiency test to monitor NOX sensor readings. We found that the test had passed and the unit is now ready to be put back in route.

Now that my son is off from school, this is the future of our business we can teach and he can learn in one day hopefully will be working hand-in-hand.

We had this customer contact us for some issues with the fuel hose reels.

These systems operate manually, taking the hoses out and uses a motor to reel the hose back in. The customers complaint is that the chains are falling off the sprockets.

We evaluated the system and have adjusted what we could for the chain and sprocket adjustment.

There were two motors that were adjusted to the max and needed a new chain, and one needed a new sprocket from being bent.

The third hose reel we needed to diagnose why it was not retracting. During our electronic test we came up with the motor has failed and will need to be replaced.

Being that these trucks are leased out through Phillip 66 our main contact resides in Texas. They usually overnight ship parts to get these units back up and going as quickly as possible.

That being said, we are incredibly honored to be able to have served this customer for nearly 8 years. We’ve built a trust over a states away that we can accomplish anything for them.

We returned to the customer with parts to finish this pesky repair.

Sometimes repairs don’t go as planned, but the things that separate us from everybody else’s, we know how to resolve these issues quickly and efficiently. Being a mobile tech for nearly 20 years has taught us one thing to adapt and learn as we go.

Nevertheless, we were able to finish this truck up and give it back to the customer so that they can continue on with their deliveries
