Chris's 1970 Chevelle Bucket frames are ready to head home to Ohio!

These frames had already been blasted and painted, but had some broken and missing springs. Chris asked me to do a little Seat-Guy magic on these while he was here on vacation.

* New HD 9ga Side support springs replace the broken 11ga originals.
* "Doubled-up" Outer front springs will give his seats extra support on the outside front corners where its needed without raising the seating height.
* New Upper cushion tension rods will provide the proper shape and depth for the upper seats.
* All new Spring side Listing rods and OE style burlap & Jute decking was installed

His seats are ready for covers and buns to go on whenever he is ready!

For the 5 guys who read my stuff and geek out over seats, proceed. 😎

A few weeks back I bought a pair of 66 frames that had gone through a fire. Stripped to the frames, everything was great except one upper cushion frame was just too badly rusted after blasting to be able to save it...

I actually guessed this was the case when I bought them, so I happened to find a deal on eBay that same weekend. I bought a 67 "Strato-bench" upper cushion.
A strato-bench is kind of unique it uses bucket seat uppers to give it the look of buckets while still being a bench. These have all the same frames and guts as a bucket upper except the inner hinge is different.

The hinges on 66-72 gm bucket seats are all welded on, EXCEPT the unobtainium outside hinge assemblies for 67 & 68, which are bolted on. Every frame 66-72 has the holes stamped into them even though they don't use the bolt in ones...

So... Drilled out some spot welds on the junk frame and suddenly I had a pair of 66 hinges.

Drilled out some spot welds on the inner hinge on the 67 frame and unbolted the side release assembly...

Used the bolt on hinge as a template for those factory holes then drilled and tapped so I could bolt those 66 hinges on.

Bam! Like it was made that way!
Now I have a full set of SOLID 66 bucket frames ready to send off for powdercoating!

And I have a spare 67/68 hinge and release button setup ready to install when I find a need for it. Can never have enough spare seat parts!

A busy seat weekend!!
Yesterday I met up with Chris and his wife who drove all the way out here from Ohio bringing me his 1970 Chevelle frames for my famous (apparently) spring repairs and reinforments... To be fair I think he was actually coming to hang out on the coast for a month, but I'll pretend it was just for my amazing work 😂

Darrell came up from Portland this morning to score those beautiful 70 Chevelle bucket seats I had for sale.
They will be going into a 496 powered 72 elCamino. Can't wait to see some pics of them installed! Since they came all the way up here, I took him and his son for a little spin in my own 66 Chevelle. 😎

And this afternoon, Brian drove his LS swapped 65 up (also all the way from Portland!) to buy these back seat frames I had. We did a little test fit to make sure they fit (perfectly). I'll be building these out with new foam and covers over the next few weeks.

I had to snap these pics of his gorgeous Chevelle while he was here! I'll get some more once he has his new back seat in it.

I'll give you a hint- it's not the color.

GM used a unique upper spring assembly in their bucket seats for all Chevrolet Cars in 1966 & 1967 - Chevelles, Chevy II, and full size Impalas and caprices all got a 2" taller spring assembly that stayed tight to the frames creating a slim pointed top to their seats.

The rest of GM Buick, Olds, and Pontiac used a different set of upper spring assemblies, shorter and had springs pushing them out from the frame to create a fatter and flatter look for 1966/67.

In 1968+ gm changed the springs and they were all the tall version that Chevy used in 66/67 regardless of the brand.

Spring extension kits for 66/67 bop spring assemblies.
Include an extension top edgewire and supports and new top springs to pull it back towards the frame like Chevy did.

So.... I'm back. Actually really never left or stopped.
I ran into a lady at a store today, she was fawning over my 1966 Chevelle, especially its interior. I mentioned that I did upholstery and handed her a card. She looked at the car and said YOURE THE SEAT GUY??? YOU DID THE SEAT IN OUR 55! Turns out I did the seat in their 55 Chevy Truck 15 years ago. I think that was my sign to quit pretending I'm not really doing this stuff. 😎

After long deliberation, I've decided to stop taking on new Seat Projects and put down the hog ring pliers.

I've still got a few projects waiting in the wings that I've committed to, and may allow my arm to be twisted into doing a seat project here or there for friends and repeat customers, but I'll no longer be offering my services to the general public.

I want to thank all of you who have allowed me to be a part of your car projects for the last 13 years, and I am grateful for the lasting friendships found along the way.

Zee Germans have landed!
This 1970 Mercedes SL bucket seat looks ok, but it has zero support on the bottom sides, and has a metal rod poking out the side of the top.
Rob & Nicole asked me to see if I can fix it and beef up the bottom while I'm in there.
