•The End of an era•
TLDR; I moved shop and consolidated.
•For the last 5+ Years I’ve rented this little space, about an hour from home, for the pursuit of my hobby. It’s not fancy. There is no heat. There is no AC. There is no running water. And, the facilities were the trees out back. For basically the last 5 years, uninterrupted, every Sunday was “Shop Day.”
•In the winter time this meant a measly little heater pointed right where I worked in a bleak effort to keep warm. In the summer this meant sweating an equal amount of liquid as was consumed that day. Some days this was simply the gathering place to hang out and maybe turn a wrench, maybe burn a cigar.
Times are changing though, and a dirty hobby hole out in the country, a 2-hr round trip from home was becoming less practical. The days of dropping cars off of forklifts and taking 200 20v Sedans through the woods are already seeming like a fleeting memory. Blasting down gravel roads with cobbled together cars, tossing dirt bikes in the trees in an effort to make it up ‘the hill,’ gutting cars out in an afternoon and chucking half the parts on the mezzanine “for later”....all a thing of the past.
What’s next I’m sure will be great, but this is already going to be one of those things referred back to for many years as part of “the glory days.”
I’m sure at this point the fiancé is rolling her eyes, getting ready to say “really...?”. But, for those that came down and enjoyed the space, had a beer while I pretended to wrench, and took it in for what it was; Thank you!
There’s bound to be more to come.
Shouts out to for enduring absolute hell as we moved in the humid, swampy heat the last few weekends! Literally dripping sweat for 12+ hr days, and rain coming in only to soak the ground in the shop the last few days of it.
