After a five year hiatus, Hodgespeed has workshop space again and has decided to start accepting new work at our new spot in Ballard.

There will be a few changes from how we did business in the past.

For starters, while we will be stocking a limited inventory of get-you-back-on-the-road parts to help out people here in Seattle that find themselves without that little bit they need and nowhere to get it locally, as well as placing fairly regular orders for parts from SIP in Germany, we will not be doing any shipping or mail order at this time. If you need parts and are here in Seattle, get a hold of me and I may be able to get you a deal, but I will not ship.

Secondly, We will only be accepting work on two stroke manual scooters, with a few exceptions for very closely related designs. while I can supply parts locally for modern automatics, I will not be working on them in the shop.

We will be offering repairs locally, as well as stock and custom motor rebuilds by mail. If you want to ship us your engine, we can make you something special.

Anything else? Ask. weither I'll do it or not directly relates to how busy I am, how much it pays, and how much of a hassle it is.

Hodgespeed is winding down operations.

The short of it: gentrification. Our landlords have sold our building to developers that plan to level it and put up condos. seattle rent has been going up significantly these past few years, and I just don't think there is any chance i'll be able to afford a place to live in this town that includes a workshop space.

the long of it:
in addition ot gentrification, the software that i used to streamline the online ordering has evolved over time, and the new webstore version that ties into my back end software no longer works as well for the way i structured my buisness, and costs significantly more as well. the current version has been buggy for a while now and is out of support.

i've also gotten a bit weary. working very physical day jobs in shipyards 40 hours a week, and then spending 20-30 hours in the shop just is wearing me out.

I've been making money working in scooters for so long that i rarely ride them anymore. it's just not fun to work on my own, or go on a ride after having to deal with other people's bikes, other peoples parts, etc. when i have spare time, i'm just almost sick of scooters and wanna just sit on the couch instead of doing things i used to love to do, like piecing together bits for my fuel injected allstate, or riding.

in short, i need a break from having to answer to other people about their parts and their scooters.

I'm not out of it totally, but i do need a break. I have had some interesting scooter-related offers, but don't know if anything will come of them.

I'm currently liquidating my used parts stash, as well as some scooters. ( if anyone wants a 1977 bajaj chetak, a 1964 vespa 90, or a project allstate or cutdown p125, get ahold of me) and wrapping things up on the parts side. ( if you're waiting on a backorder, i'll be reaching out to you to issue a refund soon)

i'm not taking any more orders, and once the 3-4 bikes in my shop leave i am not taking in any new repair jobs.

if you're in seattle, you might want to reach out to me- i'm liquidating all my shelving, used parts, workbenches, shop press, automatic parts washer, etc at very reasonable prices.

thanks for your support over the past years.
Rob Hodge

And I just spent 'black friday'.... counting and reorganizing invintory. Found alot of weird inventory i don't really need to have around, mostly returns and mis-orders. Expect a invintory clearance sale to appear in the next few days.

Yes. it isn't even Haloween yet. Yes, posting this probably makes me a horrible person.

However, I wanted you all to know that I have just gotten Christmas Wishlists set up so you can piece together everything you need from SIP and then share this list with your friends and family.... so you can get the exact parts you need for your winter rebuild without having to explain to your family the difference between a DRT 4th and a 4th hand tool.

I've put up a brief blurb explaining it at http://www.hodgespeed.com/christmas-wishlists, and
this new functionality can be accessed directly at http://www.hodgespeed.com/wishlist.

To get orders in in time for Christmas, allow about three weeks. i'll add info on the exact cut-off date as it gets to actually be the Christmas season.

In the meantime,
Happy Halloween from Rob Hodge and the rest of Hodgespeed!

You can create a list of any scooter items available from SIP that your friends and family can access using a special URL, or that they can look up using your email address.
