In the beginning
Baker’s Service Center, a family owned business, was founded in 1963 by Edward Baker. It was originally located on Missouri Street in Scott City and later moved to it’s current location at 1906 Main Street. Ron bought the business from his father in the late 1970s. When Ron took a position with the Cape Girardeau Vocational School as an Automotive Collision Instructor, Ed continued to oversee the business during school hours until health concerns limited his participation. Ron retired from the Cape Girardeau Public School district in 2011 and sadly passed away unexpectedly in July of 2015. The business is currently being run by Ron’s widow Brenda and by his son Zach, who grew up in the business.
Zach attended the Cape Girardeau Vocational School in the Automotive Mechanics class for two years. After graduating from high school, Zach attended Wyo-Tech in Laramie, Wyoming and graduated from the Deisel Mechanics program. While attending school, Zach continued to work in the automotive mechanics and the auto-body industry.
Chris Kneezle, also a graduate from the automotive mechanics program at the Cape Girardeau Career Center has been a valued asset to Baker’s Service Center for serversl years.
Both Chris and Zach have received extensive training from seminars with AC Delco and other companies. In addition, both Zach and Chris serve in an advisory committee to the Automotive Mechanics Program at the Cape Girardeau Career and Technical School.
