The guys have been complaining about the old tire machine for awhile now. Well, it finally died. The new one is officially up and running. Zach and Chris said some assembly was required. (Btw, they were very uncooperative in the picture taking process.)(Binx said he needed his picture posted too.)

An air bag deploys at 200 mph. If your feet are on the dash they will be the first thing you see flying past your ears in the event of an accident. Please don’t do it, keep your feet on the floor.

We are in a wind chill warning.... What is windchill?

How dangerous is wind chill?

Wind chill is an index measuring how cold it feels when wind is added to the current air temperature. For example if the air temperature is 10 degree with no wind it will feel like it is 10 degrees. However if you add a 15 mile per hour wind the air temperature will feel like it is -7 degrees. The reason for this change is as wind moves across your body it draws away the heat your body causing you to become colder. As the air temperature decreases and the wind speed increases the wind chill value will be higher, meaning that you are in greater danger of being hurt or killed and the higher the wind chill the faster the cold will hurt you. If the wind chill is -20 degrees it will take less than 30 minutes for your skin to freeze, resulting in frostbite. Frostbite is nothing to ignore as the damage it causes can range from minor irritation to frozen skin such as fingers, ears and nose which may need to be surgically removed. The lesson to take from this is when it is really cold and windy, don’t go outside. If you must then wear gloves, hats, scarfs and jackets to cover exposed skin.

In the beginning

Baker’s Service Center, a family owned business, was founded in 1963 by Edward Baker. It was originally located on Missouri Street in Scott City and later moved to it’s current location at 1906 Main Street. Ron bought the business from his father in the late 1970s. When Ron took a position with the Cape Girardeau Vocational School as an Automotive Collision Instructor, Ed continued to oversee the business during school hours until health concerns limited his participation. Ron retired from the Cape Girardeau Public School district in 2011 and sadly passed away unexpectedly in July of 2015. The business is currently being run by Ron’s widow Brenda and by his son Zach, who grew up in the business.

Zach attended the Cape Girardeau Vocational School in the Automotive Mechanics class for two years. After graduating from high school, Zach attended Wyo-Tech in Laramie, Wyoming and graduated from the Deisel Mechanics program. While attending school, Zach continued to work in the automotive mechanics and the auto-body industry.

Chris Kneezle, also a graduate from the automotive mechanics program at the Cape Girardeau Career Center has been a valued asset to Baker’s Service Center for serversl years.

Both Chris and Zach have received extensive training from seminars with AC Delco and other companies. In addition, both Zach and Chris serve in an advisory committee to the Automotive Mechanics Program at the Cape Girardeau Career and Technical School.
