Over the last month or so, I got to connect with fellow Z and JDM enthusiasts at events out here on the west coast, out there on the east coast, and even further out there in Europe. I’m firmly convinced that the Z Car and JDM communities worldwide are my people.

This is a quick breakdown of the Black Gold’s transformation over the last month or so. A couple years back, I sent dropped of the original 10th Anniversary wheels for the re-barrelling treatment. While they look great, they were not built to the offset spec I requested, resulting in significant poke. While considering a few options to correct the fitment, including the ordering of metal and urethane fender flares, I reached out to Datsun bodyworks wizard, John Washington at . He share that he had a 280zx kit based on the Sharp/Newman racecar from the 80’s that might work out well. Next step was to enlist the help of to get the fenders cut and prepped for some new hips. The first cut is always the hardest. Then began the process of trimming and molding the fiberglass to retain the stock body lines and general aesthetics of this lesser-loved (although things are turning a corner these days) S130 Z car style. Connecting the ZTrix kit to the MSA side skirts and rear valence was one of the final steps before painting and reapplying the signature pinstripes. A few more coats of paint and this phase of the project will be done. Enjoy the 30-day transformation photos and reach out if you want to see any of the steps in between.

It was easier getting these two girls to wake up to go to the track at 4:30am on a Sunday than it is to get them up at 7am on a school day. I understand completely.

Finally finished the 432R bootleg Lego project. Over 2000 pieces and it weighs like 10lbs. Full sprung suspension, complete engine rotating assembly with pistons, connected to functional 5-speed transmission and limited slip differential. Almost three steering wheel rotations from lock to lock. Like other Z projects, the journey was as fun as the destination.

JDM treasures are meant to found and cherished or passed on to the next treasure hunter.

If you have a stash to share, buy a booth and sell your wares. If you have an incomplete project, peep the offerings and snag that missing piece to your puzzle. I you have a decent hoard, but have duplicates, bring that over to trade!
